Almost Sammy the Volga Time and a Cup of Coffee…

I call our Volga, Sammy! She is a wonderful car and she gets us where we are always wanting to go. She is Russian made and I think she is the best car I have ever owned and I have owned a bunch of cars in my time. I was thinking today over a cup of coffee, that it is time to get some work done on the old girl. She needs some body work and paint work. I will do that part myself at the village and she needs to have a limited slip rear differential installed….

Sveta and I have talked and as soon as we can get our car dug out of the snow around here, we will take Sammy to a shop that Sveta’s son Misha recommends and have some work down. We need to be able to crawl around in the snow and mud better at the village and the answer to doing just that? A limited slip rear axle…

I also need to get a carburetor repair kit for her and rebuild the carb when we get to the village also. It is being a real pain in the ass and I know it is just messed up with some of that wonderful gas that we get out in the boonies of Russia. We have propane as our normal fuel and so it does not cause us too many issues. By the way as I have said before, “Propane is the only way to travel!”

In fact I am thinking about adding a second 75 liter propane tank and literally get rid of Benzine. Benzine stinks and just plain messes up the oil in the car. I can run forever with the oil, running propane, but even a few hundred miles on Benzine and the oil gets dirty fast. Just so much trash in burning benzine…

Sveta and I love to travel back in the countryside of Russia and we take logging roads when we can. These roads are 10 times worse than a normal village road and you can get in some tight situations once in awhile. We need to have better traction tp get around to all the places that we like to go. A few times we had to turn around, as we just could not get through the mud and a new cone limited slip differential will let my sweetie, Boza and I to find the rainbow at the end of the trail… 🙂

So this summer, we will be in the village at least a few months and while I am there, I plan on doing the body work on Sammy and rebuild as many things as I can…

For soon and hopefully by next year, Sveta and I would like to travel by car to far North Russia, Siberia and that will take a car in good shape…

Sammy the Volga is just the girl to do that trip…
