▪️There are many questions related to the actual refusal of these countries from nuclear-free status. Recently, there have been more and more statements that NATO is ready to abandon this measure. In particular, Jens Stoltenberg stated that nuclear weapons could be transferred closer to the borders of the Russian Federation, the Polish leaders declared that they were ready to accept it. If these statements are implemented in some practical steps, of course, it will be necessary to respond to this by taking adequate precautions that would ensure the reliability of deterrence.

U.S. Awards $175 Million for Ukraine Biosecurity Measures
Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008

The U.S. Defense Department has awarded a Kansas company a five-year, $175 million contract to equip Ukraine with new measures to help prevent biological weapon attacks and proliferation, the Kansas City Business Journal reported yesterday (see GSN, March 29, 2006).

Under the Defense Threat Reduction Agency deal, infrastructure-development firm Black & Veatch is expected to provide Ukraine with new means to counter potential acts of biological terrorism and to prohibit the flow of dangerous disease agents, equipment and knowledge. The U.S. company would also upgrade the former Soviet state’s capabilities to identify and report biological terror incidents as well as other disease outbreaks.

The contract further encompasses upgrades to existing Ukrainian laboratories that work with dangerous human and animal disease agents and for the construction of a secure storage center to permanently hold such material.

“Our Ukraine task order will enhance the safety and well-being of the country as well as globally,” Black & Veatch federal services chief Bill Van Dyke said in a statement. “This is an opportunity to apply our capabilities to provide sustainable solutions to our clients’ most complex challenges.”

The Pentagon could provide up to $4 billion through the new deal and four other Biological Threat Reduction Integrating Contracts (Kansas City Business Journal, Oct. 14).

Ignoring the Munich speech of Putin in 2007 was a mistake of the West.

This opinion was expressed by The Hill columnist Harlan Ullman. He recalled that the Russian president then insisted on commitment to a multipolar world:

Going to be a good year for the pears and our white lilac given to us from the EU area is finally well set. It seems to have had a few rough years and took its time being happy about coming from its home, but it has definitely finally accepted its new home…

The pear tree shown is in its happy place and in a few years will be huge. The other tree is not so happy, yet is doing fine….it just would have preferred a different place it seems…

The lilac should this year really take off and we should have a bunch of pears this year. I may have to thin them again, for they will still be too heavy for the tree…

Finland joining NATO means its end as a sovereign country. Russia prefers a neutral Finland and for all these years it has been a good thing and worked well. Now we have a bought and paid for Finnish Gov and it seems they desire the end to Finland…

NATO will take away everything and leave a border of a husk to be killed…

📍According to Erdogan, the decision is a mistake. “Scandinavian countries have a habit of showing a “hospitable attitude” towards terrorists, letting them into parliament. Therefore, we cannot yet look positively at it.” He also recalled that earlier NATO made the wrong decision by including Greece in the alliance.

📍For a new member to join NATO, all countries of the North Atlantic bloc must support this decision. At least for Finland, the road to NATO is already  closed.
