It is cold in Ukraine, there is snow on the ground. The power plants are going to run out of coal soon and electricity will be cut. They have no heat or gas. They lost their trading partner Russia, they lost Crimea, many of their husbands, brothers, sons are dead, fighting for Ukraine. The elected leaders they thought would make life better for them without having to get a job only to find they have even less now than before, with more work required. Their Central Bank’s gold mysteriously “disappeared”. Their hopes for fracking gas came up empty-handed. Their own oligarchs tried to rip their bankrupt treasury out of its last penny by overpaying for coal from South Africa at exorbitant prices that were going into corrupt oligarchs pockets. Their president just sold them out to corrupt foreign oligarchs. They are edgy and scared, yet foolish pride still keeps them from facing the truth about their mistakes and sins.
