I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight…

twinkling_starsAfter I saw what US senators Schumer and Graham spouted about the other day. I decided to help them along and wish on every star that I see, that their desires come true…

“It is past time we send a strong message to president Putin about Russia’s actions and this resolution will help accomplish this goal,” Graham said in a statement. The two even suggested to Obama that the G20 be shifted out of Russia this year if Snowden is not handed over to the US. (AND) The senators also put forth the idea that the United States could boycott the winter Olympic games scheduled to take place in the Russian city of Sochi in 2014…

When I heard those statements I said, “Yes and lets make it happen!” I started with a prayer to God about allowing the USA to not attend the Olympics in 2014 at Sochi and then definable putting a road block in place for keeping Obama from the G20 and better yet, allow the west to cry in their beer and move the G20 to the safety of a butt kissing western wannabe country…

You do realize that the world is getting tired of the USA and her politicians? Maybe the citizens of the US need to wake up?

So starting tonight, if I see any stars in the cloudy Moscow sky, I will:

Star Light Star bright,
The first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight…

You can help and destroy the Olympic dreams for the US athletes. Or you can call the politicians down on the carpet and knock them silly for their stupid childish rants, but then who really cares? Our government doesn’t and you do not seem to care either…

It just pisses me off when I see the US government politicizing the Olympics. For if the American athletes are real athletes, they will find a way to participate in the Olympics, regardless of what our worthless government plays games with. That even means if they have to go and be part of an Olympic team of a country that does not boycott the Olympics, then so be it…

I aim to help that pile of crap we call a US government in anyway that I can, to stay out of Russia and Russian business. Even if it means wishing on a star…

Have a nice day…

Sea World Entertainment and Guantanamo Bay: Captivity, Torture and Slow Death by John Stanton

Sea World is under fire after its trainers failed to help a distressed pilot whale stuck on a ledge for at least 25 minutes as the audience watched in horror. The disturbing incident was caught on camera by one attendee who says his view of SeaWorld has been changed forever.–Huffington Post, 29 July 2013

I’ve been on a hunger strike since Feb. 10 and have lost well over 30 pounds. I will not eat until they restore my dignity. I’ve been detained at Guantanamo for 11 years and three months. I have never been charged with any crime…. I have never received a trial. And there is no end in sight to our imprisonment. Denying ourselves food and risking death every day is the choice we have made. A team from the E.R.F. (Extreme Reaction Force), a squad of eight military police officers in riot gear, burst in. They tied my hands and feet to the bed. They forcibly inserted an IV into my hand. I spent 26 hours in this state, tied to the bed. During this time I was not permitted to go to the toilet. They inserted a catheter, which was painful, degrading and unnecessary. I was not even permitted to pray…no one seriously thinks I am a threat — but still I am here. Years ago the military said I was a “guard” for Osama bin Laden, but this was nonsense, like something out of the American movies I used to watch. They don’t even seem to believe it anymore. But they don’t seem to care how long I sit here, either. –New York Times, 13 April 2013

The documentary Black Fish reminds one that “intelligence” and the human species do not necessarily equate. And it shows just how humanity’s bloodthirsty ignorance knows no bounds even in its dealings with a peaceful, incredibly intelligent and social species like the Orca’s (Killer Whales). They have not once killed a human being on the high seas, but have done so at Sea World Entertainment, Inc., after the abuse and torture that they have suffered over the years. Some of their human counterparts are captives in Guantanamo Bay.

They are both damaged goods with no options but a slow death.

And their collective fates were, and are, determined at the highest levels of a corporation and its investors (Sea World) and the United States government (POTUS and SECDEF).

That the Killer Whales in captivity at Sea World locations in Florida are forced to perform for the benefit of tractor-pull audiences is pathetic. Thanks to the American public and private education system for that. Worse still, Black Fish tells the story of how Killer Whales were captured. Rounded up by Sea World’s mercenary fishermen the young killer Whales were separated from their mothers, transported by truck to an airport and then flown off to a life in the Sea World pens in Florida. The story and video footage of the carnage and screaming mothers is so gut wrenching that, if one has any empathy and is not a dimwit, the eyes well up with tears and an emotion follows that ignites guilt. It is that painful.

Further into the documentary the audience learns that 70 some “incidents” where trainers were injured have taken place over the decades culminating, as of this writing, in the death of Sea World employee Dawn Brancheau in 2010 (by Tilikum). The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) filed suit against Sea World claiming that, viewed as a workplace, employees interacting with Killer Whales were in danger of serious injury—including death—because the Killer Whales, ranging in size from 2,000 kilograms to 5,000 kilograms are living, moving heavy machinery interacting with breakable human beings. The death of Brancheau brought the matter to the public’s attention. But Black Fish provides much more detail on the “incident” track record dating back to the 1980’s. The video footage is astonishing.

The Killer Whales have their own languages and culture—each group is unique. Their life spans are as long as those of human males and females in the United States. Their societies are female dominated. Killer Whale offspring stay with their mothers throughout much of their life spans, according to Black Fish. In two of the most riveting scenes in the documentary Killer Whale children are taken out of the water away from their mothers. The baby screams and cries and the mother does too. More’s the pity, the mothers, research showed, sent cries meant for long distance communication in the ocean–an obvious plea for help and sympathy from comrades.

What this does psychologically to the captive female Killer Whales, certainly tortured by being confined to a large concrete pool and knowing that their child has been kidnapped, can only be imagined. Killer Whales possess a brain that in many respects is far more advanced than those of humans. According to the Center for Whale Research:

“Cetacean brain development is an example of parallel evolution, adapted to the ocean environment. The brains of [Killer Whales] Orca’s are roughly four times larger than ours, have a greater surface area relative to brain weight, have enhanced development in different areas, and some of their nerve transmission speeds greatly exceed ours. Naturally enough we humans don’t much like the idea that another species might rival us in that which we feel sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom: our intelligence…”

US Navy: Killer Whales Make Great Targets

In the book Sea of Slaughter, author Farley Mowat indicated that in the 1960’s US Navy surface and air units out of Iceland used Killer Whales as live-fire targets. Many Killer Whales were slaughtered along with other whale species. Mowat points out that the US military regularly used large whales for antisubmarine warfare testing. Sea of Slaughter also documents the near elimination of Blue Whales and basically the destruction of an entire species more closely related to humans in terms of thought and emotion than the comparably dumb chimpanzee. And when the public got upset with the US military’s cavalier attitude to killing and maiming Killer Whales, American military and political leaders could not believe that interest groups would care about preserving a bunch of fish. In that, they echoed the view of the whaling industry whose only concern was short term profit.

The US Navy has continued on with its abuse of aquatic life forms. Attempting to turn dolphins into mine sweepers they have literally brainwashed and abused them. Airlifting them from one combat theater to another, then back again must make the dolphins psychotic. It is madness.

Black Fish informs the audience that Killer Whales in captivity are frequently plucked from different groups with distinct cultures and languages. They are all dumped in a pool together and often do not get along. It is akin to rival gang members being thrown in a jail cell together. Violence ensues. In the Killer Whale’s case this means ramming, raking a rival and even taking frustration out on the human handler. Video footage of these troubles is in abundance in Black Fish.

Sea World’s biggest investment is in the sperm of the males for breeding purposes. This is why Tilikum who dispensed with Brancheau remains, literally, penned up in a pool at Sea World with an occasional release to perform. Black Fish contains an X-rated scene in which one handler is gently massaging the elongated sexual organ whilst another collects the liquid gold. There are human vampires after all.

Trusted Spin Methodology: The Big Lie

Sea World leaders spin, obfuscate and deny whenever an “incident” threatens the revenue stream. When Sea World Killer Whales are injured (raked) or when their human handlers get killed or taken underwater for long stretches (“play” in the Killer Whale’s world), Sea World’s leaders blame the underlings. “All their fault, technique was wrong…their mistake” is the refrain, even though the video evidence says otherwise. A good example of this is the notion that Brancheau’s pony tail was grabbed by Tilikum to drag her under water. Not correct as the video showed.

It is the same mentality at the lofty heights of the Pentagon: Abu Gharaib was “just the work of a bunch of bad apples.” “The United States of America does not torture.” “The United States government does collect data on its own people.” “We will not kill or torture Edward Snowden.” “The 2013 Egypt Coup was not a Coup.”

Meanwhile, at the United State’s premier Gulag—Guantanamo Bay—the not guilty are held captive with the guilty. They will never walk down a city street again or have a peaceful night’s sleep.. They have been tortured repeatedly, some for a decade. Even if released, they are psychologically damned. Dozens (40-45) know this and are on a hunger strike. The World Medical Association considers force feeding to be torture. But the Pentagon just doesn’t care. Their reply to it all is mechanical, typical, the same sort of formula used by Sea World to justify its treatment of intelligent life: [We] support the preservation of life by appropriate clinical means, in a humane manner, and in accordance with all applicable law and policy. [The Pentagon] has well-established policies to protect both the detainees and the professional obligations of our medical care providers.”

Getting on into the 21st Century—now the Anthropocene—the human species has staked its claim as one of the most ignorant and immature on the planet. Humans point to massive skyscrapers and sea based oil rigs, supercomputers, genetic engineering, mighty aircraft carriers, stealthy submarines, the Apollo space program and a robot on Mars as crowning achievements for the species. So what!

If the human species kills off most of the life on the planet—disrupting food chains, climate patterns—none of those symbolic “things” will matter at all. The human species knows little about the oceans which cover 70 percent of the planet, yet they are sucking the life out of it by over fishing/whaling, polluting it in the search for energy, deafening its creatures by the use of frequencies painful to their “ears”, and dumping garbage and sewage into it. The term “humane” needs to be revised or ditched.

There is much excitement in the scientific community and the popular media about the improvement in the quality of life that genetic and pharmaceutical engineering will bring. Humans can recreate extinct species or those threatened with extinction. But there is no guarantee of that.

Darwin was challenged once with an argument that went something like this: the breeding of animals and plants shows humanity’s control over Evolution. Darwin thought about it and said that Evolution will make that judgment over time as the long term consequences can’t be known. Humans are not conscious of what may come to pass from their creations, he implied.

But for the moment, one thing is certain, humans are dangerous to themselves and every living creature on the planet.

Just ask the Killer Whales.

What a Wonderful World to Travel…

passportcontrolI spent a little time last week traveling around and doing business in other countries, other than Russia, that is. That is why I have been absent from posting very much and to be truthful, I no longer have a desire to see westerners come to Russia. Russia is on the right track in life and development and Russia needs to stay that way…

The more I travel the more I realize that Russia is a safe haven for real life and while Russia has her issues. These issues are minor in comparison to what is happening in the west. Why it is so bad out west in our world, that I have had to simply turn off all news from the US and Britain. All you do is either laugh or wonder about how stupid things are in the west after listening to the MSN (Main Stream News) and my heart hurts from the stupidness. That I can not afford to have happen and hence forth, it is the middle finger to the MSN…

But back to the title of the article…

Traveling from and to Russia is wonderful and crossing the borders is very easy. In fact an example of what I mean is this: A woman in front of me at the explosive sniffer device that checks for traces of certain chemicals, had a little tiny fluff-ball of a dog.  This dog was running around loose and doing what ever it wanted to do. I was looking at the dog and thinking that in America, right about now all hell would have broke loose as this dog would have to be a terrorists right? And kept under lock and key, in a dog carrier. (In fact this woman was on my jet and she never had the dog in a carrier.) When the woman went into the sniffer device, the dog went in with her and sat down between her feet as the woman stood on the green footie pictures. Then it left when its mother was done being scanned. No one cared, no one questioned it, no one got upset and no one lifted an eyebrow at the hilarious scene that I just saw. I was chuckling to myself and watched the dog traipse through the rest of the line and wait patiently for his owner to gather her stuff. They walked around the airport for two hours and the dog never was on a leash at anytime, be it in the airport or on the jet…

Now that is what I call a wonderful world. It is nice to see the ability of a government to ignore things like little dogs getting on jets and traveling the world. Dogs like to travel also… 🙂

Then this next example is classic also: There were a thousand people standing in line at the Ukraine passport control. One of the jets that unloaded was from Israel and it was loaded with moms, dads and babies. Now they all got in line like everyone else and where going to wait like everyone else. The lines where terrible and Ukraine should be ashamed of running such a poor passport control system on this particular day. But the Russian and Ukraine people made my heart smile on this day and I was useful with my English also…

Russian and Ukraine people do not allow babies to wait in the back of the line, just the same as they allow babushkas to go to the front of the line. Babies are number one priority in all aspects of life and the passport control area is no different. The Israelis where so scared and confused and this is where I stepped in. The Russian/Ukraine were trying to get the babies to the front of the lines and communication did not work between the two groups. These were not Russian Jews, they were Hebrew speaking Jews and of course they speak English. When I saw tears in the eyes of several people at the fear of breaking the lines and the repercussions that could come from breaking the rules, my heart broke…

I remember the Israel borders very well and to do what the Russian/Ukraine wanted to do was a sure fire way to get detained for awhile in Israel. The whole thousand people opened up a channel to the passport control and they waved and asked the Jews to take the babies to the front of the line. A babushka kept patting the head of the nearest baby and saying the only English word she knew, “Baby! Baby! Baby!” I finally explained to them that they have to go to the front of the line. For if you do not, we will never leave here. Babies come first and foremost in the Russian/Ukraine culture and that is that…

They finally passed the word among themselves and all the blockades had been tore down in the way of progress and the babies made it to Ukraine before all of us. The blockades then were all put back and and we resumed normal proceedings. The interesting thing was that the border patrol did not flinch nor act like a bunch of babies were terrorists and trying to carry nukes in their diapers to destroy the world in the west. They helped us get the babies out of the way and then by that time they had gotten their act together also and opened up all the passport control booths. Then things went great…

It is a good world that babies are put first and dogs can run free in an airport waiting for a jet to fly to the lights fantastic…

Russian Asylum: Update on Edward Snowden

Snowden may be walking around Russia within a few days. Possibly as soon as today 24th of July, 2013. So a large number of people in Russia are waiting for the word from the officials…

It usually takes the Russian immigration authorities up to seven days for an initial assessment of an asylum request, according to Snowden’s Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena. If they choose to proceed with the process, Snowden would be issued provisional documents to that effect.

It is looking rather positive as to the fact that he will be allowed at least temporary asylum, while the Russian government spends time mulling over the final process. Even temporary asylum allows him to wander Russia freely and he will be able to do, as I myself do all the time…

Live a hell of a lot freer than he did in the USA…

Oh I know that you who live in America have real issues with people saying that anywhere on earth is freer than the land of the free and the home of the brave, but sorry to burst your bubble. There are many forms of freedom and being controlled by a police state is not my idea of freedom…

Thence we have the rest of the world to dance in and pick a better spot to live. Try it sometime, you might like it…

Have a nice day…

Interesting E-mail…

Email I received and if any Russian reading this desires to come back to Russia, then drop me a e-mail at admin@windowstorussia.com and I will get it sent to the proper place…

emailHello Kyle,

I’ve read your article. Very interesting and very thoughtful. Yes you are right many Russians who left in 90’s but couldn’t find peace and good work are struggling in the states. They are embarrassed to admit that well, it’s not exactly as they planned.

Things changed a lot in the last 7 years for better in Russia. Good salaries, service definitely got better, restaurants, museums and the most important your own kin.

Well if you know some Russians who are interested to try to come back I think I can help.

Me and some other people are organize privately some kind of helping hand in finding jobs and accommodation for people who have education and who didn’t find themselves in the States due to different reasons.

To start they need to send their short Cv and story. We can go from there. But this people have to have strong intention to relocate back and do their best to give it a try in their homeland.

For now that’s all.

Lu

The e-mail is self explanatory and it is legit. There are people in Russia who are helping Russians who have become quagmires in a system, that they can not break free from. I have several articles about this subject and since I have started to write about Russians coming home. Many have and I see a reversal in the brain drain. In fact I see brain drain now going into Russia not out and it is from people all over the world…

Have a nice day and yes, I do think Russia is a wonderful country and I hope one day to be permanent in Russia myself…

Black Current Kissel – Recipes From Russia…

black currantKissel is a fruit-based beverage, its name comes from the ancient Slavic word meaning ‘sour,’ because many of the Russians fruits are sour fruits. In Russia the most popular are gooseberries, cranberries, cherries and black currants…

History has it, kissel saved one ancient Russian city from a siege and starvation. The city elder gathered all the wheat and honey and cooked the drink in a pot buried in the ground. When the enemies saw the food coming straight from the earth itself, they retreated, as it seemed that an endless supply of food was available to the city from the gods…

I decided to make black currant kissel because we have so much delicious black currant in the village that we have a home in. It is a plentiful berry in Russia and everyone seems to have a bush of it growing in the yards…

Ingredients:
1/2 lb black currant (my favorite and they are good for diabetes)

1 quart water or a liter will do…

For those that have to have sugar, add sugar, if desired. I like the drink with just the sour fruit taste…

2 tablespoons potato flour or cornstarch…

Lets Make:
Rinse black currant or whatever fruit you desire and put fruit to boil in a pan of water. When all the berries have burst from heat, strain and force through a sieve back into the water. Other words remove the skins and keep all else except seeds or pits of course.  This is the juice from the black current for the base of the drink. Reheat the juice while mixing in the sugar to taste if you so desire. Mix the potato starch or cornstarch with cold water and slowly stir into the juice, until the juice thickens. It should be the consistency of thick syrup. Cover and cool…

Enjoy…

Russian Farm…

20130721_150717

As Sveta and I travel Russia we see a lot of farms. The farms are not totally the same as I was use to in America, but they are definitely farms. I grew up with a world of individual farmers farming the land and I know that is changing in America everyday as I write this. The individual farm is a dying business and being taken over by corporations 24/7…

In Russia the farms have never been individual as I can see and a typical farm is like what the picture shows, then nearby is a farm village. In that village is where the farm hands live with their families and they work at a farm like this. In fact I am standing on the road that leads to the village for this farm. It is behind me…

This farm is a mixture of old and new equipment, unlike the larger farms nearer to Moscow. That is why I took a picture of a typical farm in the boonies and not of a farm that has all new John Deere tractors all around it. This one still is using many old Soviet tractors and we see many Soviet tractors still plowing fields as we travel. They are tough pieces of equipment and they look to do their job for many more years to come…

It looks like home to me and that is something that has been the hardest to get through peoples heads in America. The world is all the same and yet we try to place one country above other countries and we try to make one religion better than another country and we try to believe that we are better than other people. The world is really just the same all over…

This farm reminds me of the fact that people just want to live in peace and harmony…

Why can we not just grow food, grow happy, grow peace, grow life and grow spirituality?

Governments are not people, religion is not spirituality and people are basically good overall…

Have a nice day…

Life does not get any better than this and I thank God everyday for my life as it is now. For it has not always been this wonderful and never giving up faith is the only way to live…

Village Home Before and After…

beforeafter

Sveta learned to paint and she was the best helper in the world. We painted for days, as we fought the mosquitoes, deer flies and horseflies. It was all worth it as you can see from the photos that the place has brightened up a whole bunch…

The village was beautiful and was surprisingly packed with people. I would say around 50 people all together had come down and decided to spend sometime working on their village homes. Then a surprise was discovered, the monastery is being rebuilt and the work is being done as I write this. In fact the plans are to rebuild the original church and rebuild the bell tower. I am not sure about the rest of the buildings?

They have an archeology group digging out the foundation of the old church and they are sifting the dirt for any little trinket and artifact. I am so excited to see this monastery being rebuilt and I hope I live long enough to see the finished product…

Our Village Monastery in Russia – The St. Nicholas Monastery…

Read the above article and learn about the old female monastery that was built where the village stands now. The area is full of history and like I have said before we have a running blessed spring of holy water nearby and lots of other religious goodies all over the place…

That is one small reason why I love Russia: The Russian Village – Sunrise to Freedom…

The New Middle Ages by Gini Graham Scott, Ph.D.

Today, as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, it seems we are approach a new Middle Ages in America, as inequality increasingly spreads through the land. It is as if the superrich are like the new royalty and the top 1% are living in mansions like the old castles of kings in the kingdoms that eventually melded into Europe and the U.K. Meanwhile, the media wields the power of the medieval church, placing its blessing on those with wealth and celebrity, who are protected by their retinue of publicists, handlers, lawyers, chauffeurs, and servants. They are much like the landed nobility who were part of the king’s court, who formed a protected and privileged enclave far removed from the much larger class of peasants who worked their land and paid their taxes, which supported the royalty and monarchy in their grand style.

I began thinking of this comparison after a friend emailed a link to a video that has been circulating on the Internet – Wealth Inequality in America http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPKKQnijnsM, at the same time that I have been watching some TV series set in the Middle Ages – Monarchy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0431550, about the history of the kings and queens in England, starting in 400AD with the warring feudal lords who were united into a kingdom under Alfred in 871, Borgia, about the growing power and wealth of the papacy under Rodrigo Borgia, who became Pope Alexander VI and his family, in the late1400s, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1736341; and World Without End, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1878805, about the struggles of the peasants in England in the 1300s, during the reign of King Edward V.

The Wealth Inequality in America video makes a frightening case for what is happening in America as the middle class is being undermined and the poor are becoming poorer than ever. The video also echoes what I have noticed in my own life, where a growing number of professional and business people are now out of jobs or businesses, recently lost their home to default or foreclosure, or have recently filed bankruptcy or are on the verge of doing so. This video is not just a study in economic statistics – but it shows how our society is being irrevocably changed by the growing disparity of wealth between the super rich and everyone else.

As the Wealth Inequality in America video describes, a Harvard business professor and economist asked over 5000 Americans how they thought wealth was distributed in the U.S, which was about $54 trillion in 2009. Based on dividing the country into 5 groups – the bottom 20%, second 20%, middle 20%, fourth 20%, and top 20%, he asked how the survey participants thought wealth was divided and the ideal distribution. Then he compared those results with the reality for 311 million Americans. Based on this, the survey group thought the top 20% had about 60% of the wealth, and the fourth 20% about 20% more, though in their ideal scenario, 92% of the group imagined that the top 10% would have about 35% of the wealth, and the middle and top fourth about 20% of the wealth each. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/02/income-inequality-in-america-chart-graph. But in reality, the top 20% have about 85% of the wealth, and next fourth about 10%.  That leaves about 5% for the remaining 60% of Americans. And the top 1% has nearly 20% of the wealth. http://danariely.com/2010/09/30/wealth-inequality;

This disparity is worse than ever, since in the ideal scenario, the wealthy are about 10 to 20 times wealthy as the poorest Americans, while there is a healthy middle class. But in reality, the poorest Americans are barely getting by, the middle class is barely distinguishable from the poor, and the top 10% are much better off, especially the top 1% which has 40% of the wealth. The bottom 80% has only 7% of the wealth. This situation has gotten worse in last 20-30 years. The richest 1% earn 24% of the income today, whereas in 1976, that number was only 9%. Moreover, the top 1% own half the countries’ stocks, bonds and mutual funds, while the bottom 50% own only .5% of them. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/10/03/334156/top-five-wealthiest-one-percent. A CEO makes 380 times the income of average employee, so the average employee has to work about a month to earn what CEO makes in 1 hour.

http://money.cnn.com/2012/04/19/news/economy/ceo-pay/index.htm.

This situation is much like what existed in the Middle Ages, with today’s poor underclass much in the position of the peasants, and the superrich like the nobility, with the blessings of the media heaped upon the rich and famous. For example, look at the huge McMansions of the celebrities, wealthy CEOs, and Internet millionaires. These homes are often high on bluffs and surrounded by gates, while bodyguards, security guards, and an entourage offering various services surround them, much like the retainers, servants, and knights of old protected the king, queen, or other high ranking nobles. ikewise the marriages of celebrities and the wealthy with one another, celebrated through features in the celebrity press about their glamorous marriages, are much like the marriages of the royals of different countries, with families seeking to cement alliances through these matrimonial ties. Then as now the wealthy families had access to the finest education, travel, and clothes, while private jets are a modern day equivalent to the fine carriages and horses of old.

The modern day superwealthy also find plenty of loopholes to preserve their wealth, such as tax shelters in no-tax islands, while the middle and lower income classes, much like the medieval peasants were required to pay more and more, such as the extra taxes the English peasants had to pay to finance the hundred years war from 1337 to 1453. As for the media, they play the role of the medieval church in the way they support and celebrate the doings of the superrich in the growing number of celebrity and style publications. And to make one more comparison, the reality shows where competitors seek to be the last one standing are like the jousts of knights, especially in shows like “Fear Factor” and “Wipeout,” where the competitors face extremely difficult and even dangerous challenges, though they wear safety harnesses and a team of medics are in waiting to take care of any physical or emotional challenges that might arise.

In short, the growing disparity of wealth today has many parallels with the unequal society that emerged in the Middle Ages, as kings and nobles consolidated their territories and became richer and richer, drawing on the taxes of the peasants to help them become even more powerful. But lest we forget, the wealthy superrich of medieval times were continually subject to plotting by the other superrich seeking to overthrow them, along with repeated peasant revolts against their mistreatment   So some of the modern day protests, like the Occupy movement and the growing protests about the Zimmerman verdict, might have parallels with the peasant protests that deposed many kings and nobles and some of the social revolutions like the French Revolution that led to a shift to a fairer society for a time before the rise of a new wealthy class once again. Could that happen today? It could be one of the outcomes of the spread of the New Middle Ages characterized by a growing disparity of wealth and the rise of the super wealthy who are like today’s new royalty. Or might there be another outcome through efforts to create a more equal society before the growing inequality becomes even worse?
