China welcomes new like-minded partners to join BRICS family: Chinese Foreign Ministry
BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Wednesday that China supports the BRICS expansion process and welcomes the addition of new like-minded partners to the BRICS extended family.
Mao Ning made the announcement at a daily press briefing when she was asked to comment on recent reports that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has expressed his country’s desire to become part of the BRICS as the association shapes the new world order.
As an important platform for cooperation between emerging market and developing countries, BRICS aims to uphold multilateralism, actively promote global governance reform, and expand the representation and voting rights of the above countries, the spokeswoman said.
“BRICS has become a positive, stable and constructive force in international affairs,” she said.
Mao Ning stated that China has always adhered to the position that the BRICS is an open and inclusive mechanism, and supports the process of its expansion. More and more countries are applying to join the BRICS and hope to join cooperation within the association, she said.
“We welcome the addition of new like-minded partners to the big BRICS family,” Mao Ning concluded.
