Ever walked peacefully in the woods and met an Elk?
I was minding my own business and looking at the ground, looking for elk tracks. I found some in a mud area crossing a logging road as I walked and followed them the best I could. I rounded a tree…
First lets start how I got elk tracking. I found droppings…
Then I found tracks…
And then I found a squirrel jumping tree to tree…
Then I put the camera away and walked a bit more trying to find more elk tracks…
I rounded a tree…
Then I almost had a heart attack, as I came face to face with a bull elk!
I am 6’3″ tall and his eyes were diverted downwards to look at my eyes. I was easily able to look over his shoulders, but the set of antlers towered above me….He was wide eyed and I froze instantly. I would say he weighed an easy 700 plus pounds or more and knew that if spooked, he could kill me easily…
Just as I was getting my head around using the tree I went around as a guard, he decided that I was stupid and he turned and shot off like a rocket. It was not two bounds and the forest swallowed him up and I heard nothing at all…
It was like looking at a horse with antlers…
And for your information, I did not even try to get my camera back out. I definitely did not want to startle him…..he was no more than two feet from me!
I decided to backtrack to the main road and walked home!
Now that was worth the twelve kilometer walk I took today…
Got home and checked my vitals…
Blood Pressure: 109/68
Heart Rate: 62 bpm
Blood sugar: 3.9 – too low, I know! (I forgot to take a protein bar for low sugar…)
Now you understand why I walk. I walk to try to keep my health good. I have too many issues, but walking will save me. Well at least until the elk, bears and or my own stupidity gets me! 😉
Elks are one big ass animal running around in the woods next to you…
Glad it was not a moose…
