Swedish prosecutors dropped their rape case against Julian Assange, a cofounder of WikiLeaks, it was announced on Tuesday.
Assange faced a rape allegation stemming from 2010, but prosecutors decided that, while the Swedish complainant was credible and evidence reliable, her memory of the night in question had faded and there was limited corroborative evidence available.
“Her statements have been coherent, extensive and detailed, however, my overall assessment is that the evidential situation has been weakened to such an extent that there is no longer any reason to continue the investigation,” said Eva-Marie Persson, Sweden’s deputy director of public prosecution.
In 2010, being suspected of committing sexual offences in Sweden, Assange fled to the United Kingdom, eventually taking up residency in the Ecuadorian embassy where he remained from June 2012 until April this year.
Assange’s Swedish lawyer, Per Samuelson, said as far as he was aware British lawyers had not yet been able to contact Assange in jail to inform him of the Swedish decision.
“This is the end of Assange’s association with the Swedish justice system,” Samuelson said. “But he is not happy with the way he’s been treated. He lost faith in the Swedish justice system years ago.”

I myself do not think that Assange is a saint by any means and I refuse to give him lofty heights of attention as so many do, treating him as we would an Angel from heaven. Assange does good and does bad, but this particular case against him has been a sham and setup from the beginning…
Anyone with an ounce of brains knew from the start that Assange had stepped on the wrong toes and TPTB were out to get him. The issue is that Assange had to run, for to have been taken in years ago, put him in greater danger than he is now. He as you and or me, have a right to run from a situation that is pure deceit filled and your life’s balance is in jeopardy…
What needs attention at this moment is not about Assange, but about the fact that he, you, me, them, they, us and everyone around you, do not have any rights whatsoever. Assange was convicted first, no trial and sentenced by media and governments. All with no preclusion to attempting a legit trial and or any form of justice…
Assange knew he did nothing wrong in the trumped up Swedish charges of rape. He knew he had been set up by a patsy woman/Gov and had no choice but to run. As everything surrounding the rape issue against Assange is false, then any actions by Britain and the subsequent squelching of his rights as a human, are criminal….does not matter if you think he is an angel or not, his rights as a human have been destroyed…
Destroyed because, someone and or something did not like what he did…

PS: Britain has no reason to even have chased him in the first place, thus, he should walk free immediately. For when we are convicted with no evidence, it really is a travesty of justice. Assange never had a chance against the system and he made several errors in trying to believe in the system…
The biggest error was not running to Russia, where he could have lived free and safe, just like Snowden does…
But one thing Assange did not error in; he told the truth…
