Russian Defence Ministry reports on repelling AFU attempt to invade Russian territory in Kursk region (23 October 2024)
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.
The Sever Group of Forces continued offensive actions and hit units of AFU21st, 22nd, 41st, and 47th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, and 95th Air Assault Brigades, 112th and 129th territorial defence brigades near Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Nizhny Klin, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, and Sverdlikovo.
The Group’s units repelled two enemy counter-attacks in the direction of Plekhovo and Pokrovsky, and thwarted three attempts of counter-attacks in the direction of Zeleny Shlyakh. The AFU losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, one tank, and three infantry fighting vehicles, to include one U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. Three AFU servicemen surrendered.
Army aviation and artillery inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of AFU21st, 22nd, 41st, 47th, 61st, and 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th and 129th territorial defence brigades, and 17th National Guard Brigades near Aleksandriya, Gogolevka, Guevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kositsa, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Loknya, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Nikolaevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Oleshnya, Plyokhovo, Rubanshchina, Sverdlikovo, Staraya Sorochina, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye
Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops launched strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of AFU 21st, 41st, 47th, and 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, and 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, and 103rd Territorial Defence Brigade close to Vladimirovka, Iskriskovshchina, Miropolye, Nikolayevka, Obody, Pavlovka, Sumy, Hoten, and Yunakovka.
The AFU losses amounted to more than 280 troops, 13 armoured vehicles including three tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, seven armoured fighting vehicles, three artillery guns, six motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station. Three AFU servicemen surrendered.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the enemy lost more than 25,943 servicemen, 175 tanks, 92 infantry fighting vehicles, 103 armoured personnel carriers, 989 armoured fighting vehicles, 681 motor vehicles, 224 artillery guns, 38 multiple rocket launchers, including nine of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the U.S., nine anti-aircraft missile launchers, five transport and loading vehicles, 55 EW stations, 11 counter-battery warfare radars, three air defence radars, 22 pieces of engineering and other equipment, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, and three armoured recovery vehicles.
The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.

The Sever Group of Forces in Kharkov direction engaged formation of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade and the 92nd Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Liptsy, Kotovka, and Volchansk (Kharkov region).The AFU losses amounted to up to 100 troops, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of AFU 44th, 60th mechanised brigades, 74th, 77th airmobile brigades, 3rd Assault Brigade, 125th and 103rd territorial defence brigades close to Bogouslavka, Lozovaya, Zeleny Gai, Novoplatonovka, Podliman, Pershotravnevoye (Kharkov region), Terny (Donetsk People’s Republic), and Chervonaya Dibrova (Lugansk People’s Republic).
Six counter-attacks launched by units of AFU 14th, 63rd mechanised brigades, 1st National Guards Brigade, and 119th Territorial Defence Brigade were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to more than 510 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, nine motor vehicles, one 155-mm Braveheart self-propelled artillery system, two UK-made 105-mm L-119 guns, two U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzers, one 152-mm D-20 self-propelled artillery system, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, Anklav-N and Bukovel-AD electronic warfare stations.
The Yug Group of Forces liberated Serebryanka (Donetsk People’s Republic) as a result of the offensive actions.Units of AFU 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, 23rd, 54th, 60th mechanised brigades, 5th and 79th air assault brigades, 81st and 46th airmobile brigades, and 37th Marine Brigade were hit close to Semyonovka, Zvanovka, Vasyukovka, Seversk, Slavyansk, Chasov Yar, and Kurakhovo (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Two counter-attacks launched by formations of AFU 56th Motorised Infantry Brigade were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to more than 800 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, ten motor vehicles, two Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery systems, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, two 152-mm D-20 howitzers, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun. Two Anklav-N electronic warfare stations and five field ammunition depots were eliminated.
The Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Nikolayevka (Donetsk People’s Republic) and continued advancing into the depths of the enemy’s defence.Formations of AFU 24th, 32nd mechanised brigades, 38th Marine Brigade, and 12th National Guard Brigade were hit near Leninskoye, Dimitrov, Dzerzhinsk, Sukhoy Yar, Kurakhovka, and Shcherbinovka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Thirteen counter-attacks launched by AFU 23rd, 93rd, 100th mechanised brigades, 68th, 152nd jaeger brigades, 5th Assault Brigade, 49th and 425 assault battalions, 37th Marine Brigade, and Lyut Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 450 troops, two infantry fighting vehicles, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, seven armoured fighting vehicles, including U.S.-made Kozak and HMMWV, two pickup trucks, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 howitzer, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and one 100-mm Rapira anti-tank gun. One unmanned aerial vehicles depot has been neutralised.
The Vostok Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line, inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of AFU 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 72nd Mechanised Brigade, 46th Airmobile Brigade, 110th and 113rd territorial defence brigades near Dobrovolye, Alekseyevka, Novoukrainka (Donetsk People’s Republic), and Temirovka (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 115 troops, two motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system, three U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzers, and one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer.
The Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on units of AFU35th Marine Brigade, 121st, 124th, and 126th territorial defence brigades close to Ponyatovka, Zolotaya Balka, Kamyshany(Kherson region), and Kherson.The AFU losses amounted to up to 90 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, six motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun. Two ammunition depots were wiped out.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged the infrastructure of military airfields, fuel facilities, storage facilities for uncrewed surface vehicles, assembly facilities for unmanned aerial vehicles, clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 141 areas.
The Black Sea Fleet’s naval aircraft have destroyed four AFU uncrewed surface vehicles in the north-western part of the Black Sea.
Air defence facilities shot down 14 U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 78 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 34,173 unmanned aerial vehicles, 583 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,769 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,478 MLRS combat vehicles, 16,607 field artillery guns and mortars, and 27,497 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
