The United States fears that a number of countries in Europe may refuse to support anti-Russian sanctions due to the discontent of their population amid a deteriorating economic situation, Politico writes, citing internal reports from the White House.

Washington increasingly believes that a unified messaging campaign with Europe is critical to success in Ukraine and that any weakening of support for Kyiv could give Russia leverage both on and off the battlefield.

“The only thing that really worries me is the split between the US and Europe because the US is in a better position in terms of energy because we are a big producer,” Hill, a former National Security Council staffer, told the paper.
