A friend whom lives in United Kingdom sent this poem and a translation
Here is the English translation of the poem “Do Not Wake the Russian Bear!” by Konstantin Frolov-Krymsky:
Do Not Wake the Russian Bear!

Dear neighbours from across the seas,
Well-fed, swaggering like gods with ease,
Do not wake the Russian bear,
Let him sleep in peace down there.
Do not disturb his reign and rule,
His eating, drinking, while his heart beats full.
You cannot even start to guess
What this will bring—your own distress!
Time and again, you’ve kicked him sore,
Humiliated, dusted him with scorn,
Crucified him on a birch tree’s frame,
Burned with fire, drowned him in shame.
And when your victory seemed so near,
A trembling thrill of sweetest cheer,
The Russian bear’s deep growl would rise—
Right at your doorstep, to your surprise.
Why, brothers, can’t you stay at home?
What draws you here, sniffing, to roam,
To seize the generous Russian land
From clumsy paws with greedy hands?
For years, your cunning little thought
Fills newspapers, scheming and fraught:
“What right have they,” you slyly say,
“To one-sixth of the world today?”
We came here by God’s own will,
Our honour unstained, unbroken still.
It’s not for you to judge our fate!
Our wealth—we did not steal or take.
Our unshakable foundations stand—
Sails, sleds, and horseshoes in hand,
Berings, Khabarovs, Dezhnevs bold,
Yermaks, Poyarkovs, Zaikovs of old.
Ladies, lords, señors, and peers,
Crossing lines without due fears,
Do not taunt the Russian bear—
Your mischief will cost you dear.
You’ll trick him a hundred times with glee,
Strip him bare in a tavern’s spree,
For every kindness you give has a fee—
Your gods are gold, your idols greed.
Your creed: divide and then command,
Your truth is the strength of a ruthless hand.
You’re used to lording over the flock,
Burying the defiant in a stony block.
But a Russian sees a brother in all,
Rejects your stinginess, your lying call.
For him, the Truth is the highest aim,
Justice dearer than any claim.
So from the depths of any hell,
Where none but he could hope to dwell,
The Russian rises from ash and mire,
From swamp and sludge, from blood and fire.
He’ll shake off the haze of battle’s toll,
Wash his eyes in a spring so whole,
Pray before an icon’s glow—
Then come to your house, soft and slow.
Reeking of gunpowder and blood,
With weary eyes, he’ll stand and brood,
Pausing above your sleeping head,
Gazing with reproach unsaid.
And while your light still dimly burns,
Summing up the past, he’ll turn,
“Why did you come to my Russia, say?
Do I owe you something today?”
You’ll see your reckoning has come at last,
But find no coin to pay the past.
A Russian might forgive a kin,
But you’re no brother—just evil within.
Your soul, shrunk tight in flesh so weak,
Trembling under his stern gaze’s peak,
Will curse a thousand times, too late,
The foolish dream of “Drang nach Osten’s” fate.
You who crave new lands to claim,
For baseball, rugby, or golf’s tame game,
Read a tale or two, take care—
Of Napoleon, Adolf, their despair.
Temper the blare of your proud parade!
For folly’s price, you’ll soon be repaid.
Do not wake the Russian bear—
Perhaps then, you’ll be spared the scare.

Не будите русского медведя!

Милые заморские соседи,
Сытые, вальяжные, как боги,
Не будите русского медведя.
Пусть он мирно спит в своей берлоге.
Не мешайте царствовать и править,
Есть и пить, покуда сердце бьётся.
Вы себе не можете представить,
Чем для вас всё это обернётся!
Вы уже не раз его пинали,
Унижали, посыпали пылью,
На берёзе русской распинали,
Жгли огнём и в омуте топили.
И когда уверенность в победе
Доводила вас до сладкой дрожи,
Рык утробный русского медведя
Раздавался вдруг у вас в прихожей.
Что ж вам, братцы, дома не сидится?
Так и тянет, прилетев на запах,
Щедрую российскую землицу
Взять и отобрать у косолапых!
Сколько лет мыслишкою лукавой
Ваши переполнены газеты,
Мол, “какое мы имеем право
На одну шестую часть планеты!?”
Мы сюда пришли по божьей воле,
Честь свою ничем не замарали.
И не вам судить о нашей доле!
Мы своё богатство не украли.
Наши нерушимые основы –
Паруса, полозья да подковы,
Беринги, Хабаровы, Дежнёвы,
Ермаки, Поярковы, Зайковы.
Дамы, господа, синьоры, леди,
За черту ступая ненароком,
Не дразните русского медведя:
Ваше баловство вам выйдет боком.
Вы его обманете стократно,
В кабаке обчистите до нитки,
Ведь у вас любая милость – платна,
Ваши боги – золотые слитки.
Ваше кредо – разделяй и властвуй,
Ваша правда – это правда Силы.
Вы привыкли восседать над паствой,
Неугодных одарив могилой.
А вот русский в каждом видит брата,
Не приемля скаредность и лживость.
Для него всего важнее – Правда,
А всего дороже – Справедливость.
Потому со дна любого пекла,
Где никто другой не сможет выжить,
Русский вдруг поднимется из пепла,
Из трясины и дорожной жижи.
Выветрит угар кровавой битвы,
В чистом роднике омоет очи,
Пред иконою прочтёт молитвы…
И придёт к вам в дом однажды ночью.
Весь пропахший порохом и кровью,
Поведя вокруг усталым взором,
Он замрёт у вас над изголовьем
И в глаза посмотрит вам с укором.
И пока вы свет не погасили,
Спросит он, былое подытожив:
-Ты зачем пришёл ко мне в Россию?
Или я тебе чего-то должен?
Вы поймёте, что пришла расплата.
Но платить, как оказалось, нечем.
Русский бы простил, наверно, брата.
Только ж вы не брат ему, а нечисть.
И душонку, сжавшуюся в плоти,
Теребя под хмурым взглядом гостя,
Вы тысячекратно проклянёте
Глупую идею «Дранг нах Остен».
Жаждущие новых территорий
Для бейсбола, регби или гольфа,
Почитайте парочку историй
Про Наполеона и Адольфа.
Поумерьте пыл парадной меди!
Отвечать за глупости – придётся!
Не будите русского медведя.
Может быть, тогда и обойдётся.
