Another mans trash is another mans treasure…
I have been trying to figure out what and how the kind of cable to anchor the barn with. Buying a cable strong enough to put serious tension on is expensive and I was trying to gather the items that would allow me to span the front to back of the barn and use a large come-along to put tension against the front of the leaning barn. Not straighten it, but equal the gravity pull downward upon it…
Then as I was walking near the forest in the middle of nowhere land, I found a treasure. It was dumped near a pile of trash, bad people dump trashy stuff in the middle of nowhere all the time….I guess they did not want this huge cable. Not rusted and or anything, just very very heavy…
It is 1.25 inches thick and exactly 10 meters long….32.8 feet long….with a knot on either end. Could not image wanting to tie a knot into a cable like that, but I will utilize those knots, for I sure will never get them untied… 😉
A cable weighs about 2.9 per foot at that size and so it is about 95 pounds. I had to drag it over two kilometers to get it home. Up and down the little hills, around the trees, over the many ant mounds, across one deep ravine and finally I trudged into the backyard…
The cable actually pulled me off balance three times and I ended up on the ground. It would get stuck in something like a anthill….ouch…
I will use it to pull from the top front to the bottom back and pull it tight. If the building falls over after this? It will roll in one piece with all the support I have on it now!
