Sometimes I feel like a “Seeing Eye Human”…
No not a seeing eye dog, but a human. I guide Boza around and allow him to have a life, a life as free from danger as possible. Life has become a series of commands. Up, down, right, left, stay, stop, no, hold on and many others. Boza has a harness and I keep constant tension against it and Boza knows where I am at at any given time…
Sometimes though, Boza can see somewhat and those days are precious to me. They make my life a whole bunch easier as I walk him…
The weather is a big factor in his tiny amount of sight that we are blessed with. I attribute it to the changes in air pressure, as his glaucoma is pressure related. Time framed to when he has his medicine is also important to understand, some of his drops make it so that he does not see for a few hours after usage. Keeping eye pressure down is the first priority and sometimes the cure seems to be worse than the illness. This has been a trial and error situation for Boza and I. It has taken a long time to get that balance of medicine, timing and patience. Boza has been a very good patient and knows that doing his eyes is crucial to his comfort…
This last week, Boza has been seeing some. I call any sight on his part as “Fantastic Super Boy Sight!” Boza, when he can see some, prances, dances and become alpha wannabe and charges out front of us. Now that creates another whole set of issues, as he wants to run and run and run, but since he still really sees terrible, trees will come from nowhere, they seem to just step in his way…
This means that you must be very alert, for Boza will charge ahead and if you look away at something, he will crash and burn. Then he looks at you as if you failed in your seeing eye human job… 😉
Every night Svetochka comes home and Boza is waiting for the most favorite walk of the day. I can walk him six, seven, eight and or more times and he still demands that walk with his mommy! It is the most special time. Those two have a very wonderful relationship. I call it the blind leading the blind and they just wander aimlessly all over the place. I have to steel my nerves and just trust in fate and God, for they have too much fun blundering all over the place…
I have a much (much much) more disciplined walk pattern….No wonder Boza loves to walk with Svetochka. They go where Boza’s nose takes him….over hill and dale, across the piles of life and through the sticker burrs of bushes. I am always pulling sticky seeds off of Boza, after a Svetochka walk…
