This is all last minute talk about a western competitive, Belt and Road?

This is knee jerk reaction to appease the citizens of Britain and the USA. I do think Europeans/Americans are ignorant of world issues enough to be fooled by this rhetoric. Except if they are fooled, they will be the only ones fooled!
What the US and UK is suggesting is the equivalent to or synonymous too building a parallel and perhaps extremely useless second freeway road. Imagine, just like utilities, two telephone lines, two gas line, two water lines from competing suppliers, one line already on the go and is backed with much money and the new promised one is backed by two church rat countries. Who do they think they are fooling? Neither Britain nor the USA has money to spend on projects like this. They spent all their equity/fake money on wars and sanctions. They do not have the structural engineering capabilities and they are no good at winning the hearts and minds of the subject countries that would be involved in this project…
Yet they are good at trying to force countries at gun point to look their way:

Elderly leaders, hardly free press of any type, total fear to be politically incorrect, suppression of views inconsistent with the official line….And aggressive global policy focused on foreign interventions. Actually us westerners have become what we abhorred in the past…
Can we really expect that the rest of the word would love to embrace the kind of democracy that the U.S.A. now promotes? Or that we pretend to promote?

You could only ever have believed it, if you didn’t know much about the political, social, or cultural reality of America then, now and past. Of course, the P.R. of America has always been so skillfully prepared that even the majority of Americans fell for it for over two centuries now…
The truth is, America has always been a regime of organized crime with a giant marketing department and some make-belief government institutions as a front facade of a picture. The only way that America has ever been democratic is that violence and psychopathic sadism are so deeply ingrained in the American mindset and its culture, that the genocidal actions of government in the world are essentially following the American people’s minds and behavior patterns. And yet another truth is, that real democracy has never been realized in human history. If anything, there has ever only been a democracy for elites, like in the City of London or in any other lobby-driven plutocracy with parliament and political parties aka lobby clubs. Perhaps Switzerland comes closest to a real democracy, but even there it is more make-belief than anything for real. As long as wealth means power in a debt-based monetary system, democracy simply cannot exist…
Yet the one with the biggest stick will always rule….until he no longer does!
