I was waken last night from sleep. I sleep very light and many things will wake me. But last night I was glad to be woken..
I went into the kitchen and got a drink of water and while I was pouring that water, I opened the window and I heard the train whistle in the distance singing her song as she traipsed into the night. Then while the lonesome whistle blew, the Orthodox Church down the road joined in the chorus and rang her bells in tune to the Whistle…
I sat at the kitchen table listened to the train whistle get fainter and fainter. The church bells rang their last ding. I drank that wonderful cold water and thought how lucky I am to have cold water to drink…
I have listened to trains blow their whistles in many countries. They always sound the same and in reality a train is a common denominator that is stable all over the world.
Whether in Africa, America, Mexico, Russia, Canada, Germany, Spain, Vietnam, Ukraine, Moldova and or one of the many other places I have been. The train whistle has always made me stop and think about how lucky I am. It just is the sound, far off in the distance that calls to me and touches my soul…
The song of the bells at the Orthodox Church made it extra special and gave me that memory that makes it so Russian…
If you have never heard the train whistle deep into the night, then you have missed out on part of what makes life interesting. The whistle of a train is a special sound and is part of the blues in America…
I travel by train a lot in Russia because it is the fast and cheapest way to transverse this humongous country. I love the train and am glad that Russian trains talk like all the other trains in the world.
It just makes the world seem a lot smaller when I hear a train whistle…
We live in the space center of Russia. Where it all began and where it still goes on…
Sergey Pavlovich Korolev (Сергей Павлович Королёв) Rocket engineer, “The Chief Designer” of the Soviet space program…
Look closely…at the image, see what surrounds him. This is the man who had a dream and he fulfilled it. This is the man who put Sputnik in orbit and….
Korolev’s unexpected death in 1966 interrupted implementation of his plans for a Soviet manned Moon landing before the United States 1969 mission.
It is said that he would have done the impossible and his death at 59 years old ended that dream…
The Soviet émigré Leonid Vladimirov said of Korolev: Short of stature, heavily built, with head sitting awkwardly on his body, with brown eyes glistening with intelligence, he was a skeptic, a cynic and a pessimist who took the gloomiest view of the future. ‘We are all going to be whacked and there will be no obituary’ (Khlopnut bez nekrologa, Хлопнут без некролога – i.e. “we will all vanish without a trace”) was his favorite expression.
Now you learned something new…
Russia always amazes me. A few weeks ago there was a totally sufficient bus stop, not blocking the sidewalk. Then along came intelligence and decided that we need and new one and we need to walk around the bus stop and they stuck it smack in the center of the sidewalk. When the bus stop is busy, you have to walk around the back side in the grass….and soon an unsightly path will develop… 😉
It is Russia and will not change…
The little building (installed) three years ago, told me, what they would build and they are finally getting it done. A Decathlon store…
Where’s the potatoes?
My breakfast 132 rubles ($2), two coffees and two somethings???? They have changed and went up a few rubles and now they look like a mixture of everything they swept up from the floor. I am not happy with what Globus did to my favorite potato patties. They forgot the potatoes…
Still okay and I will still buy them if they do not kill me. But I got a tidbit grouchy and you know I never get grouchy!
Literally across the street from Sveta’s mothers home is our new home. We were given the opportunity to receive this home as a gift for being a very good friend to the owner who had died almost two years ago. Still costing us money to get all the paper work done and fees and taxes and whatnot, but it is ours. The big issue we have is that the original owners never registered the land….just the home!
Nicolai’s place (RIP Nicolai)
Therefore, costs of just getting everything legal and correct will be almost more than what we have to spend. We even have to pay for survey of the property to get the land legal. The wife of Nicolai who is giving the home to us, has given Sveta full power of attorney and is helping all she can. She tried to get it all done in the past and it overwhelmed her then. But now Svetochka is on the job and one thing Sveta has is patience…
This is Sveta’s mothers home (below) and you know about this village home from years of articles with Boza, Svetochka and I living there…
So we have two homes to work on. We hope to get Babushka to come and stay the summer and since we have a little grandkid monkey and another on its way! (Yes, Sveta’s son soon to be daddy again!) The usage of the Tiny Russian Village homes is assured to be more active in the future years to come. I suspect that Pro-Babushka (Great Grandma) will want to come and stay a few weeks, at least while, the great grandkids are running the village…
So this summer is vital that we get both homes in tip top shape…
Next summer (2020) should be play time for Sveta’s number one grandkid…
They want three or four kids….hmm…

PS:
I stopped today and thought about something…
Coming to Russia was the hardest thing I ever did….but….it turned out after all, the best thing I ever did in my life for myself. My life was spent always doing what others wanted. From the government to family. Sveta opened the door and I made a decision and never regretted that decision…
Sveta is the sweetest girl in the world, Vova is the best buddy a guy can have, Nicolai (who has died) became the father I never really had and the Russian culture has embraced me and taught me about life again. Why I even learned a bunch about life from Boza our Russian Doggy…
Anyone who has followed this blog, knows that I have a very full life here in Russia. It is never dull, never terrible and most always an adventure of a lifetime…
It struck me today: Nicolai adopted me in the last few years of his life and him and I had some good times traveling weekly and shopping for things at the Big Village. He tried to show me things to make life better and life easier in the Tiny Russian Village…
Sad though, that he is gone: I mentioned once that death comes in three’s: We lost Boris, Nicolai and Boza (Our Doggy) and they were all very special. all in the same year and very very important friends to me… RIP you all…
This is Part 3 of The Volga Car! Part 1 & Part 2 are about the history and technical side of the Volga. Today we show the Classic Beauty of the Volga Automobile!
This is a Video from Russia about the different models of Volga and has been given a modern twist….Russians still love their Volga. But Volga is just a word from history now. LADA has taken the crown….shame really the Volga was twice the car the LADA ia…
Lets end with our personal car we own now, Sammy the Volga a GAZ 310221 model….and one we owned years ago….Nelly the Volga Model 24-10.
WASHINGTON — Millions of Americans are waiting for Robert Mueller to give them the final word on whether the Trump campaign conspired with the 2016 Russian election interference effort — and whether their president is under the influence of a foreign adversary…
So Putin confronts the MIC in Venezuela not Ukraine….Perfect…
Russia did not fall for it in Ukraine and surprised the USA when they slaughtered the US terrorists in Syria. Now Russia has moved the playing field in the US backyard…
Russia has just made a serious chess move…
America now has the option to have that war they desire on their side of the world. Not in Europe as the US is trying to start it. Not in the Middle East as it is trying to start it…
But in South America…
I knew this was happening when Trump like a ignoramus says, “As I told President Bolsonaro, I also intend to designate Brazil as a major non-NATO ally – or, maybe a NATO ally. I’ll have to talk to a lot of people but maybe a NATO ally – which will greatly advance security and cooperation between our countries.”
So…
Russia and China have picked Venezuela as the starting point, if America is that desperate, for a war. America has already made it clear that they want to destroy Venezuela at all costs and thus, Venezuela has nothing to lose…
So Russia confronts the Western Empire Military Industrial Complex in Venezuela not Ukraine not Syria…
I am telling you people wake up, Russia and China is getting real tired of the crap being spewed constantly from the west…
End of January I talked about what the USA is up to in Venezuela. The Venezuelan issue was a bad move on the US part…What I said was not what was being plastered all over the western news and it was not what western leaders in the US want to hear. Russia and China back Venezuela because it is the right thing to do…
Yes you heard me…
The US is wrong about Venezuela and has been wrong a hundred times about almost any country they have tried to and did mess with. It seems that we in the USA like to be wrong and or we like to simply lie about our true desires…
At least in Venezuela we said we wanted a coup, but we lied about why!
As a past self-declared beacon of righteousness, we look really overabundant with iniquitousness right now…
Now officially comes the Russian military and come it will, also the weapons for defense….Remember that Russia tried to deny at the time I wrote my first article, that no one militarily has been sent to Venezuela.
I said that was wrong…
CARACAS (Sputnik) – A group of Russian military personnel have arrived in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas to take part in consultations with country’s officials on defence industry cooperation, a diplomatic source in Caracas told Sputnik.
The USA has once again stepped over a red line with Russia and Russia will now prepare for war. That war will happen if The US does not heed the warning shots over her bow…
Now Russia has made it clear that S-300 is available for defense of Venezuela…
Following the major weekend development of Moscow unambiguously asserting its ‘red line’ concerning potential US military intervention in Venezuela, for which Russia sent a military transport plane filled with Russian troops which landed in Caracas Saturday, new satellite images reveal a major deployment of S-300 air defense missile systems to a key airbase south of Caracas.
Now China has also said that they will not stand for what the US is doing to Venezuela. The Chinese and Russians have lots of financial and resources to protect and contrary to western opinion, Maduro is not half as bad as what western leaders do to their “own” people/peasants….I suspect that if we were to look closely – the Chinese are already in Venezuela somewhere with their special/informational/teaching forces…
Oh, by the way!
Russia and now I understand that China, have been sending weaponry for several months now and training of weapons and whatnot has begun… (That grapevine is rarely wrong!)
The Western Empire of Disrespect has again tried to destroy a good country, a country that just wants to get along…
Why?

PS: Ouch, they will hate this article…Hello DC!
PSS: See below, US lies in full swing….yet it tells me that I am correct that Russian military is in Venezuela…
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss the situation in Venezuela, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said on Monday in a readout of a phone conversation between the two leaders. “Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo called Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today, March 25 on the situation in Venezuela,” Palladino said. During the conversation, Pompeo told Lavrov that the United State would not stand by with respec
For the last few months I, with Svetochka’s verbal desire being brought forth, have tried to live with Windows 10. I am not able to do it. I installed it and made up my mind to live with it and force myself to really try to understand what is going on with the Windows 10 OS…
But after trying to deal with Windows 10 for years now and saying never again Windows. I am really trying to be good…
But Sveta was kinda looking green around the gills at Windows 10 and she is much more patient than I am with all aspects of life and she agreed that maybe Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 would be better…. 😉
I jumped on the opportunity to correct the terrible entity of the devil that is called Windows 10…
Yes I know you love Windows 10. Yes I know everyone hates Windows 8. Yes I know that I am stupid!
That does not change the fact that Windows 8.1 (Not Windows 8.) when set up sufficiently and or Windows 7 set up correctly is a better, safer and a bunch more fun to keep control of your life online…
Data privacy issues is the biggest issue to me, but far from the only issue and when you have hundreds of issues with something, then it is no fun to use…
Another issue that was getting worse and would have become the main issue, is every update the computer got slower and slower….and there has been lots of updates. Big fat updates and lots of things installed I never asked for and or had removed…
We realized that something free is never free…
Now our computer, which by the way is a 3.8 GHz CPU, is a happy computer again and Sveta does not care as long as her programs work and I care as long as the OS does what I tell it to…
I realize that my criteria is very likely different than your criteria as to what makes a good OS…
But since I started with the DOS Lineage’s of Windows (1, 2, 3.1 eg.) and embraced Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, Server, Vista, 8 and now 10 and having been many years on the MS program to work on these OS’s. I have finally found a Windows that I disrelish to the point of abandonment of the whole Windows program…
Therefore, I have time now. Windows will support Windows 8.1 until 2023. I use the version called “Windows 8.1 Update” and it is supported….I will think about what to do for the future…
Understand that Windows 8 is not Windows 8.1…
Windows 8.1 is so another OS and it is what Microsoft desires you to get away from. Windows 8.1 is so much like Windows 10, without their spyware and other bull…
Windows 8 is all Microsoft talks about…bad Windows 8…good Windows 10….but good Windows 8.1 is over there with its nose stuck in the corner…
I hung on to Windows 98 SE way past what I should have. It was better than XP and it was. But then nothing works anymore and you have to embrace the next level and they had already come out with Windows 7 and I disliked it and that is after I even worked on it. Maybe that is why I disliked it? I then embraced XP and only used Windows 7 to edit and work with Microsoft on. My computer always had several past ago OS’s, as its OS…
I am sorry….I have tried and again I have regressed back to a previous OS of Windows…
I just do not like being told what to do and Windows 10 is for a whole different type of person than I am…
