Going to start this post and then walk my morning walk. It is cold out, but not near as cold as it has been and it feels almost equator like at -12 C. It is true, once you adjust to harsh cold, then around -10 becomes soft feeling. Unless you are coming from +10 to -10 then -10 is harsh…

Walking in Russia takes some getting use to….
Russians seem to have no sense of the correct side of the sidewalk to walk. I know that in the Metro everyone has rules that say, “walk to the left”. And for the most part, people follow that rule. Russians drive on the right side of the road and for the most part, people follow that rule (hint: “for the most part”) But for the most part, Russians can not walk a sidewalk for their life. The people walk all over the damn place: Babushka is walking down the middle of the sidewalk. Five kids arm in arm walking across the whole side walk. Three mothers with baby carriages, you got it side by side and that pretty much holds to anyone walking the sidewalks. No right or left rule, no be courteous to elderly, kids, dogs, cats and or bears. A walk on a Russian sidewalk is truly, “Russian Roulette” at times….and no one but no one hardly gives an inch, 90% of the time.
This is in total opposite to how they treat people in general. There is actually three major issues that I find in Russia. 1. holding doors 2. rules for sidewalks and 3. driving skills sucks big time (same as walking the sidewalks)….the rest of the things I handle no problem. Truth is it is a a lack of being taught to have certain public acceptable courtesies…
I accept as a huge factor, that there is too many people in too small of an area and it has its drawbacks…
Therefore since I am diabetic, I was on the cusp of hypoglycemia 3.9 mmol/L (70 mg/dL). I felt it and got weak kneed. I did not understand until I got home what was happening. I felt okay, except being weak somewhat. I attributed that to being old… π

I have talked about that Russia does not bluff. Well China is even more likely to never bluff than Russia and what you have is serious actions only by Russia and China….I expect the USA to do something as stupid as attack China to instigate issues, We have already done it to Russia and Russia and China are bidding their time…

Biggest thing to understand is that Russia now has a nuclear powered, nuclear tipped cruise missile with literally unlimited ability to evade and travel the whole world nonstop. Once launched it will weave and sway as needed to go around, under, over and never run out of fuel. It can simply be launched and will find its target, no matter what gets in the way….even if it has to reverse directions and go around the half the world…
Besides, America will break the already broken bank, trying to catch up to Russia and China on weapons technology. Think it is part of the plan by R&C?
21,222 steps yesterday. That is about 16 kilometers. Today though I will take it easier. I fell yesterday, yes I am clumsy and hurt myself a little bit. Thus, walking less today is the agenda. About 15,000 steps should do. I have reached 5,000 right now and will walk to a far away store today. I have to go to the what I call a dollar store. It is a 55 ruble store and that is about a dollar….I will do that around 9:30 a.m.

The United States just can’t seem to come to grips with a new reality – that most of the world’s people live in the ‘Old World’ on the other side of the planet, that Russia, China and some other nations have decided to assert themselves as regional powers, that China eventually will be a superpower, that nations over there have decided and want to manage their own affairs without the interference of the US, and that there are now limits to what we can control “over there.” It has reached the point where the bunglers who manage foreign policy in this country (USA) feel that we have to do something over there, even if we don’t know what we are doing and even if our actions usually produce outcomes that are worse for our interference. The cold war is over and the US is trying to revive it, even though the “Red Menace” no longer exists. If this country can’t come to grips with the reality that it is no longer the big dog in every corner of the world, it will slide into irrelevance or, worse, start a nuclear war. American exceptionalism will render the country a has-been, third world, banana republic. It’s long past time for this country to extract its head from its posterior and come to grips with its new role in the world, before we further bankrupt ourselves in more hopeless military quagmires…
It was more than -20 this morning as we took off to get Svetochka to the train station….I am walking no matter what….I ran a 38.8 temperature yesterday, as I fight with very bad arthritis that gives me fevers. Just do it people….walk…
As I write this article after almost 10,000 steps this morning, it is still -19, But that is really nothing new to a Russian and they are out in groves getting on with business. Guys are on the roofs removing snow, knocking icicles down and children are going to school. Cold is just another obstacle in a normal life for a Russian. Builders build and children go to school. It does not slow down until you see -40 to -50 and then they might play chess inside instead of outside. π
This morning I watched four guys sitting on the edge of a tall building, they were dangling their feet over the edge and sipping coffee and eating sweet rolls. They waved at me and I waved back. They were enjoying life…
Isn’t that what it is all about?
