As Russia’s state-of-the-art mobile nuclear plant embarks on its first voyage across the Arctic, Greenpeace activists claim that the vessel may pose an environmental threat to the region. Akademik Lomonosov, Russia’s first floating nuclear power plant, has set off from St. Petersburg to Murmansk on its maiden voyage. After the massive vessel is loaded with nuclear fuel there, it will then be towed to Russia’s Far East where it’s expected to provide power to remote settlements located in the country’s Arct

It is nothing new really, nuclear plants have run submarines and warships on & under the oceans for a long time now…
But you would think that Russia has done gone been bad again, with Greenpeace screaming bloody murder and the western press dancing to the same tune…
Greenpeace considers the results of the check at the Mayak nuclear complex insufficient and unconvincing. The check for a possible leakage of ruthenium-106 has just been completed by Rosatom together with experts from the Russian Academy of Sciences Nuclear Safety Institute (IBRAE) and the Federal Biomedical Agency. On 8 December, the commission presented the results of the check at a press-conference in Moscow.
