Actually many times I have had thrown in my face about how barbaric Russians are. They even do not have decent brooms…

No lie, I have had the simple fact about making homemade brooms used as a deficit effect against Russia…

The brooms you see most often in Russia look like what is in the image. In fact I use a broom very much like the one on the left. It is factory made and is probably the most effective broom I have ever used. The broom of twigs on the right is mainly a street sweeping broom and can be made from all the trees growing almost anywhere around Moscow and all of Russia…

I find it interesting and “just right” as Svetochka would say. The brooms are cost effective, left broom can be bought for around 20 rubles and cost is negligible for the right broom. That makes them exactly the right brooms. For the job is to sweep and that they do with efficiency, both physically and financially…

Got warm, now cool again and now some coffee…

It reached +30 for a few days in Moscow, Russia. Not bad, for in the shade it was nice and comfy. But it got warm enough to effect Boza’s eyes and I had to struggle some to keep everything under control. We did it and today, as the wind blows, the rain falls and the temperature stays low. His eyes are really good…. He is actually seeing some this morning and that my friend makes walking him so much better…

Still struggling to find that perfect 4×4, but I will always struggle and one day find it. The money donated sits patiently waiting in PayPal, safest place actually. Always something wrong with each machine looked at. Mainly it has to do with papers. Many vehicles are sold in Russia that do not have proper paperwork, if they are from around the Soviet Era. It makes them hard to get tagged properly…. 4×4’s are especially bad in this aspect. Off road and for villages, no one cares to register them, past or present. It is what makes Russia so fun to live in and that I mean by a good way. Just like America was many years ago…

“In all of our years of tracking, we’ve never seen this many [hate] groups,” Heidi Beirich told CBS correspondent Tony Dokoupil. Beirich is the director of Southern Poverty Law Center‘s (SPLC) Intelligence Project, which monitors hate group activity online. “We’ve never seen their ideas penetrating the mainstream the way they are. I would say most Americans don’t realize how much of this there is.

It’s been a little over a week since neo-Nazis marched in the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia, chanting “Jews will not replace us.” In the intervening days, debate has raged over just how America’s national conversation has become a real-time discussion of white supremacy and its place in the U.S., muddied by President Trump’s ambiguity on the matter. The groups in question — who openly espouse racist views and have felt newly emboldened since the recent presidential campaign — find themselves firmly back in the mainstream.

CBS News correspondent Tony Dokoupil traveled to Alabama for “CBSN: On Assignment” to speak with Beirich, before heading to Boston for last weekend’s rally.

The flashpoints of this debate have been, for once, out in the open — manifesting as public protests and counter-protests in the streets of major cities. Saturday saw a so-called “free speech” protest on Boston Common, organized by right-wing elements but dwarfed by its anti-supremacy counter-protest from the left. A similar, if smaller, pair of gatherings clashed in a shouting match in Laguna Beach, California.

The nation witnessed what’s considered one of the largest white supremacy marches in decades as hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Charlottesville. During the rally, a car rammed into a crowd of anti-fascist protesters, injuring dozens and killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer. All this against a backdrop of a national debate around the rights and wrongs of maintaining statues that celebrate the Confederacy.

The SPLC estimates that there are currently more than 900 hate groups — organizations with beliefs that attack an entire group of people — operating in the country. Many of these hate groups subscribe to the ideals of white supremacy.

In fact, Beirich says the number of hate groups has doubled over the past two decades — a trend that appears to follow the impact of minorities, financial crisis and political elections have on society.

According to the SPLC, there’s a new generation of so-called white nationalism being run by millennials. Matt Heimbach, one of the main organizers of the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, is the face of this movement.

“Well, we have energy, I think, because Donald Trump’s election showed that the majority of white American’s social, working class America believes in sovereignty,” Heimbach told “CBSN: On Assignment.”

Heimbach represents a minority who feel strongly that “white America” is under growing threat. A recent Huffpost/YouGov poll found that Trump voters are more likely to believe that discrimination against whites is worse than discrimination against any other group. In the aftermath of Charlottesville, white supremacists feel re-energized. Their goal: to infiltrate the mainstream.

Heimbach, along with many other self-proclaimed white supremacists, deny that the Holocaust ever happened. He says his intent is to create an all-white nation — excluding African Americans, Jews and homosexuals.

Starting this fall, Heimbach will begin recruiting candidates to run in local elections. At this time, he claims about 1,000 people have joined his political party.

“We’re going to be running through our local school board, for county council,” he said. “Being able to have an influence in the community to show nationalists can have better governments than the two broken political parties.”

As a result of the Russian government’s personnel cap imposed on the U.S. Mission, all nonimmigrant visa (NIV) operations across Russia will be suspended beginning August 23, 2017.  Visa operations will resume on a greatly reduced scale.  Beginning September 1, nonimmigrant visa interviews will be conducted only at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.  NIV interviews at the U.S. Consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, and Vladivostok are suspended until further notice.  As of 0900 Moscow time Monday, August 21, the U.S. Mission will begin canceling current nonimmigrant visa appointments countrywide.  The NIV applicants who have their interviews canceled should call the number below to reschedule their interview at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow for a later date.  NIV applicants originally scheduled for an interview at the U.S. consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, and Vladivostok should call the number below if they wish to reschedule their interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.

The staffing changes will also affect the scheduling of some immigrant visa applicants.  Affected applicants will be contacted if there is a change as to the time and date of their interview.

Q:  Will my nonimmigrant visa appointment be canceled? How will I be informed?

Q:  How will you prioritize visa appointment requests?

A:  We must give first priority to the travel of officials to the UN, international organizations with offices in the United States, and bilateral missions.  These are generally required by international agreements, diplomatic practice, or customary international law.  We will also give priority to other categories of nonimmigrant visa applications depending on our staff level, such as travel for medical or family emergencies.  This could include funerals, hospitalizations, or legal proceedings.  We will process other categories as staffing permits.

Q:  I am a university student studying in the United States.  I need to get to my university now.  Will there be an appointment available to me?

A:  We are planning to offer a block of visa appointments to students in early September.

Q:  What if I qualify for a nonimmigrant visa without an interview?

A:  The U.S. Embassy in Moscow will continue to process nonimmigrant visas without an interview for those who qualify.

Q:  How long will the suspension last?

A:  We will operate at reduced capacity for as long as our staffing levels are reduced.

Q: I already paid my visa fee! Can I get my money back?

A:  We cannot refund fees that have been paid.  However, the fee is valid for one year from the date of the payment.

Q: Can I transfer my visa fee to apply outside of Russia?

Visa fees are not transferrable outside the country in which the fee was paid.  If you wish to apply outside Russia, you would need to begin a new application and pay the fee according to that location’s instructions.

Q:  Why did the U.S. Embassy cancel visa interviews scheduled before September 1?

A:  Planning for departures and staff reductions has already begun in order to meet the Russian government’s September 1 deadline for the reduction of personnel.

Q:  I live in Belarus.  Can I still apply for a visa in Russia?

A:  No.  We will reschedule visa appointments for Belarussian applicants who have already paid the application fee.  We encourage residents of Belarus to schedule nonimmigrant visa appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw; the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv; or the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius.

Q:  Why do I need an interview for a nonimmigrant visa?

A:  The interview is a legal U.S. requirement that applies worldwide.

Exceptions:

  • Diplomats and official government travel (including UN, other international organizations, and diplomats in transit).
  • Renewal within same class of visa within one year of expiration (consular officer discretion – may require interview).

The exception does not apply to applicants who are applying for a different type of nonimmigrant visa.  They must be interviewed.

Q:  Will my immigrant visa appointment be canceled?  How will I be informed?

RIP to my buddies…

Today was the day that I found out that the fifth friend of mine, within this last year time period, had passed away. This man was a man from America, older than I am and he lived in Sweden for twenty years. He also died in Sweden…. He had found his new home and was happy there…

But this article is about him and four more and actually hundreds more…

Over the last period of one year, a year that spans from 2016 to 2017 has been a rough year on men I respected and knew from all walks of life…

One man was from Romania, he owed his future to me in America. I stood by him and promoted him against all odds and he became a fine General Manager of Food Service…

One man was from Sweden as I have previously said…. He was from an older era than I…

One man was from the battlefield (a Korean,) no legs, only one arm and a plate in his skull. That says enough and he fought bravely ever since he was sent home from what should have been sure death in most peoples eyes…

One man was a friend from High School. He left behind a good wife and several kids. His dad and mom out lived him. He loved cars as much as I did and we raced and raced and raced…

One man was a boss of mine. A man who taught me about what it was like to have a heart attack and have to keep working, until you die. He had his first heart attack at 40 years old and worked still non stop, never obtaining his dreams, until he simply fell over dead at work. I learned a lot from him, became his boss and moved on, only because of his help and because he could no longer rise in the company. He leaves two kids and a good wife. He should still be alive, but retirement was the only thing he wanted and one month after retiring, he died. Not from boredom, but he knew that he gave all he could to his family and the pain was time to end…

This is just within the last year…

I could go on and on. My dad was one of those that died at work, literally. He fell sick at work, drove himself to the hospital and that was his last day on earth…. He died many many years ago now…

I know hundreds like this. Yet I have still continued. I knew hundreds more who died of wounds from battles and hundreds more of men who I knew died and never left the battlefield…

I am still here…. I lived through unsaid horrors and lived through things that should have made me go insane…

I must still be here for a reason and for some reason I write almost, literally and without fail for almost 10 years now, on Windows to Russia…. I guess something inside of me has to get out. I have something to say. Most of what I say, people do not want to hear. Most of what I say upsets people. From how good Russia is to how things have changed in America…. Something drives me to say what I say, something talks to me almost everyday and tells me that this is important top say and that is important to say. Just as something told me to write this article, as I even took a shower and here I am, wet still, writing an article on WtR…. Something tells me to write and it comes from within my soul…. Something?

October 10th coming up this year, I will be living in Russia eleven years officially. I have never been changed in my thinking about my first reaction to Russia and I never will be. I just wish that America could become more like Russia and not as I see it happening, Russia more like America…

I know that if I stayed in America I would be dead now. I would have died working to the bitter end. I would have died working just to pay the exorbitant bills that seemed to spring up from just simple living everyday life. Either that or sleep under a bridge…

I was lucky, I found the sweetest girl in the world. She lived in Russia and she did not want to leave Russia. She loves Russia and I loved her and that was that…

A man does not make a woman leave her family and her home. A man has to adapt and take care of her where she wants to be taken care of. Svetochka wanted Russia and I came to help her to excursion through life the best we can…

Now that is an excursion of a lifetime… 😉
