I was saddened today when I heard that Vasily Alexeyev  has died. He was one of my heroes in the early 70’s. I remember the rumors that we passed around about him and his huge belly. We would all say that we heard that his belly could stop a Colt 45 at point blank range because he had so much muscle in his belly. It did not matter that he was from the Soviet Union, he was the baddest man we knew on earth and that broke the barriers of the cold war…

So it is with sadness that I post this:

Soviet weightlifting champion Vasily Alexeyev, who set 80 world records in his day, died in a German clinic on Friday at the age of 69.

Alexeyev, who won two Olympic and eight world super heavyweight titles in the 1970s, had long been suffering heart problems. He was sent to the clinic in Germany earlier this month after his health deteriorated.

Born in a small town of Shakhty in southern Russia in 1942, Alexeyev set his first world record in January 1970. He became world champion later that year and held the title for the next seven years.

Alexeyev won gold medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich and the 1976 Games in Montreal. He was also the first man to total over 600 kg (1,200 pounds) in the triple event.

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said Alexeyev was not only a prominent athlete, but also a “great public activist and caring man.” He said a monument could be installed or a special weightlifting tournament organized to honor Alexeyev’s memory.

Career bests:

• Snatch: 190.0 kg in 1977-09-01 on Podolsk;
• Clean and press: 236.5 kg;
• Clean and jerk: 256.0 kg in 1977-11-01 on Moscow;
• Total: 645.0 kg (clean and press + snatch + clean and jerk), in 1972-04-15, on Tallinn;
• Total: 445.0 kg (snatch + clean and jerk) on Podolsk.

He ruled the 70’s as the Super Heavy Weight Champion in lifting…

That is a smart move and all countries need to get their gold back home before the Western world confiscates it. But you have to love the articles of love from the west that proclaim that Chavez is now stealing all the gold. It makes you wonder about the intentions of the West when they lie so much…

So why on this snowy day am I thinking about this area of Russia that is known for Polar Bears having a good time there?

Sveta had an interesting meeting the other day and she got to rub elbows with the assistant gubernatorial of the region mentioned above. Sveta asked me to go, but I decided to stay at home and goof off. I have been having some health issues. It looks like I missed a very important moment in the world of Russia. But that is okay because Sveta had a blast and I really think without me she had more leeway to get to know her new friends from high up, literally high up in Russia…

I got to benefit from the best deer sausage and ham I have ever had in my life. It was local produced from the Nenets Autonomous Okrug region and it was heaven for this country boy. (I am pretty sure that it is Reindeer meat and oh it is so good…)

Her name is Irina Kotkina everyody in Internet knows her as ChumRabotnitsa (ЧумРаботница) her current position is assistant governor (помошник губернатора) of Nenets Autonomous Area (Ненетский автономный округ), the capital of the Area where Irina lives is (**) Naryan Mar.  She is in the picture to the right. She came to Moscow on some business for the region she is in and since her and Sveta are good internet buddies they decided to meet. They met a Moo Moo’s in Moscow and had a great time…

Irina Kotkina  said in her blog that now “This means that in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug is not just 42 000 people, now there are a little more.” Meaning that new friends were made and that increases the population of the area…

Sveta and I talked and have decided to try a Winter trip to the Nenets Autonomous Okrug area. It will be frozen and roads will be able to be transverse easier. The highways that high up in Russia have a lot to be desired and when they are frozen they are passable to an extent. We are looking at the Winter break to make that trip. Which means this January coming up…

I have been wanting to travel to this region for years and now it looks like Sveta has found the desire also. I am going to keep my fingers crossed and be a good boy. For me this would be a trip of a lifetime. Traveling to North Russia by car is my favorite and going all the way to the Arctic Ocean is a dream I have…

So take sometime to look at the links above that I gave you on the area. It is a beautiful part of Russia and would be worth a visit if you have a few weeks to travel Russia…

Grab a cup of coffee and lets look at something that is happening in Europe. If everything can be placed correctly by Germany then the Euro may just come out of this a winner…

Ostensibly Europe is being undermined for their inability to follow the U.S. example. This judgement is misplaced based on the mistaken belief that our strategy actually worked. As we all know it did not. Sure, it may have postponed the explosion for a short time, but only to secure a larger catastrophe in the future. So as we sit here and drink coffee, many or most have confused the delay for success in the system…

However, if Germany’s hard line actually works and the follow up is sufficient, Europe will be commended for opening a different path. As a byproduct, the Euro comes out on top of the dollar. Commodity prices will again or continue to rise, putting strong upward pressure on consumer prices and interest rates will be coerced as well in the USA…

Any form of a reversal in the upward trend of the dollar today will most likely stimulate as a catalyst for developing countries who hold large dollar reserves to diversify into other forms of currencies and commodities. My guess is that Germany sees the U.S. has the world’s reserve currency and enjoys serious benefits from that honor. I believe that Europe craves that award again as they had in their past, and on the basis of Germany’s strategy, this is clearly an obtainable goal within Europe’s reach.

The almost criminal folly now on display in Washington, eventually may force the rest of the world to cancel our privileged reserve form of currency. The process is in the works in the Eastern world and now the Western Empire is showing a rift that just may fuel the underlinings that have been started in the world. I know that as fact, China and Russia both have exponentially profound desires to have world currencies…

I heard a saying once: “If you have the opportunity to play this game of life you need to appreciate every moment. A lot of people don’t appreciate the moment until it’s passed.” This is how America needs to look at the dollar. Appreciate it because it is the world currency and do not take it for granted. As with all great things they come and go like the wind. I have said for years now that the wind is changing…

The possible future loss may give Americans a deeper understanding of this concept and quote…

Call it what you want but the reset between Russia and America has died and it seems that the only ones who care is Russia. America has become a bully upon the earth and the realization is now starting to sink in to much of the world. The missile defense in Europe is reaching a crescendo of disaster, along with Syria, Libya, the START Treaty and multitudes of other things…

Watch this video and don’t blow it off. Only fools look the other way when a country like Russia has been pushed too far. Russia is reaching her point of being pissed off and I see nothing but laughing Americans, like it is all okay. The cold war drum beats are winning in America…

This video from RT is the strongest video I have seen from them about the reality of what the Kremlin is thinking about the Western farce called missile defense…

Now the issue has been effectively postponed until after 2012 because of elections in Russia and America. That means people that over a year of stewing time to get worked up is waiting and that will do nothing but cause issues…

I can now see the Medvedev the president, that should have been from the beginning of his presidency. He really fell hook line and sinker for the lies from the West and he really wanted to believe that he could make a change with America…

As he has found out the hard way. The trust is gone and has been replaced by skepticism and open eyes…

Russia makes sure that most of the news that you get is about how pathetic the military is in Russia. I see China do the same thing. I am here to tell you that you should be worried because the militarism on this side of the world is much stronger than what the Western press is proclaiming it to be. That makes the Eastern press happy that their squelching of status is working…

I myself, do not see a reduction now in Nuclear capacity with all this turmoil going on between Russia and America. Russia would be totally ignorant and blind to not see that America will never follow the START Treaty from this point on. It looks like another arms race because as Russia is learning the only stifling of Americans world control ambitions is a huge nuclear stock pile that will keep a checkmate on the American government…

This is the same thing that China, Iran, North Korea, India and many many many more see as a deterrent. What happened to Libya is a warning shot and giving up nuclear weapons is the last thing that you want to do in this world power struggle going on…

I think it is time to readjust the doomsday clock. The reset has died and a cold war is starting to brewing again. I can hear the drums beating 24 hours a day…

For reasons probably connected only with getting control of Libyan oil and gas, western politicians ignored all contrary advice and meddled with Libyan internal affairs, actively assisting one side in a civil uprising; without any thought of consequences, stepping over the Rubicon, if, indeed, they were able to think that far ahead…

The bare fact is that Libya is not a homogenous society, but a land of some six hundred tribes with numerous active grudges and feuds from as far back as Roman times. A land where any policy of concession, or democracy, is derided as weakness…

More than the stupidity and greed demonstrated by Obama, Cameron, Sarkozy, et al, is the disgusting and shameful self congratulations they showered upon themselves for their meddling in Libyan affairs…

I suspect the worst is yet to come. I suspect that violent revenge with attacks, will spill over into the countries that meddled in this conflict, and that all foreigners will now be at risk in Libya…

So much for law, order, justice, and decency. The leaders who might have stood up for those principles now only stand up, smirking, for the television cameras…

Now over seven thousand imprisoned by the victors: how did this happen? Thousands and thousands murdered for their skin color: how did this happen? Under the cover of the UN, the NATO alliance intervened on the side of the RTC forces. They did so, with “plausible deniability” through the forces from Qatar. They broke the UN arms blockade with tons of weapons for the RTC. Quatri troops on the ground coordinated the “no-fly zone” attacks on government forces, another violation of the UN mandate. Then Qatar’s al Jazeerah acted like a public relations shop for the rebels with the cooperation of the US media and others…

The NATO alliance attacked a foreign state that posed no imminent threat to any of the alliance nations. That’s called a preemptive war, also known as a war crime. Lies, double talk, and violence, the new trans Atlantic doctrine. With all of its faults, the Gaddafi regime was not ready to attack anyone in March. Libya is in ruins, thousands are in prison…

Will the next victim of preemptive annihilation please step forward. Obama, Cameron, and Sarkozy are not ashamed, they don’t fret over their violence. Besides, they’re too busy planning the next unwarranted violence…

This is just plain hilarious. I can not stop laughing. She just did what most of us would love to do , but don’t out of respect for the office of the President. She’s just doing the job that American News anchors are unwilling to do. A well executed bird flip. 🙂

Remember the joke: A Russian and an American were talking. The American says: We are so free in America, that in America we can talk bad about our president and get away with it. Sources at REN TV where Ms Limanova works says that she would not be punished for her slip-up despite the embarrassment it has caused the channel… (It has caused the channels ratings to go up!)

Update: REN TV, a privately owned channel controlled by associates of Vladimir Putin, the prime minister, said on Thursday it had decided to take her off air calling her actions “unacceptable” and “unprofessional”. (Well REN I hope your ratings plummet to the bottom now.)

That is a classic video and she has that typical Russian woman look. I have to tell you that you do not wanna mess with a Russian woman when she is upset. What a classic and I am still laughing…

Russia has a right to halt further disarmament and arms control endeavors if it doesn’t reach an agreement with the US on the ABM issue.

Russia reserves the right not to take further steps on disarmament due to lack of agreements with the US on the anti-missile defense system in Europe, President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday commenting on the uncertainty of the situation with ABM in Europe.

Russia may deploy systems to counter ABMs in the west and south of the country:

Medvedev orders ABM counter measures:

Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the country’s military to develop measures enabling the troops to destroy ABM control and information systems in the event of an attack.

Medvedev: Russian missiles to be equipped with new penetration device:

Russia’s Navy and strategic missiles troops will be equipped with a cutting-edge ABM penetration device and super efficient warheads due to the current situation with NATO ABMs being deployed in Europe.

Point is Russia means it and is doing it…

Looking more like a cold war everyday and that will make America happy…

Russian cabbage pie or kulebjaka or kulybyaka is a treat and a half in Russia. It is made with cabbage or anything in between all the way to Russians favorite – Salmon. The Russians like to get creative and make the pies in many styles and shapes but in this case we will use just a regular pie tin and pie crust. You may get creative in the design that you cut into the pie top. This is a full meal deal as most dishes in Russia are. Practicality rules in Russia…

Since I had a reader send me a comment about cabbage pies in Russia. I decided to post a easy recipe. So this is a simple recipe that is not exactly like what a Russian would do, but I modified to make it easier to make. I use pre-made frozen raw pie crusts instead of the thick bread like crusts that Russian many times uses. I have seen it done with these crusts so that is why I feel okay with using them…

Ingredients:

2 pie crusts, unbaked thawed from frozen state
1/4 to 1/2 cup sauteed mushrooms
6 oz. cottage cheese or cream cheese (Remember to drain the cottage cheese well if you are using curds and whey!)
2 hard-boiled eggs diced or sliced
3/4 c. sauteed cabbage and onions
Basil, Oregano, Salt and pepper to taste

Lets Make:

Put cabbage and onion in a oiled fry pan. Saute on medium heat. Then remove and put in a bowl. Set them aside. Put mushrooms into the same skillet and saute as you did the onions and cabbage. When done put into another separate bowl…

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F…

Place bottom crust in greased pie pan. Layer with cottage cheese or cream cheese, sliced hard-boiled eggs next, then cover with sauteed cabbage and onions. Season on top to taste with basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Then add a layer of sauteed mushrooms and cover with top crust. Pinch edge together to seal and slice a design in the top for steam escape and expansion. Bake at 300 to 325 degrees F. until golden brown. I like to brush with butter at the last few minutes (and add sesame seeds also) to glaze the top somewhat…

This dish is so delicious and really is easy to make. You can be as creative as you like and use your own favorite pie crust instead of a store bought one. Puff Pastry would be excellent with this recipe. Russians make it with a bread style crust many times and it is like a sandwich when you eat it. adding meat to the mix will satisfy that hungry man you feed, it is a simple as adding a layer of ham at the bottom of the pie.  How ever you do it you will find that it is a wholesome meal all in one bite…
