One of our good readers Blackseabrew brought up in a comment the fact that the world was starting to run short on uranium, for nuclear power plants. He said that the supply was limited.

I started to look around at what Russia had available. Here is what I found:

Russia’s total uranium reserves are significantly more than 1 million tons, the head of the Rosatom nuclear corporation said on Tuesday.

Sergei Kiriyenko said Russia had 575,000 tons of recoverable uranium reserves and 875,000 tons of proven reserves. (Link)

The article explained that Russia has enough uranium to supply the world for 60 years. (That is not very long to me!) They also went on to say that there are several new fields of Uranium that are being developed in the future. Including a field in South Yakutia. <-- This link will give you more information about Russia's uranium future than you really would want to know. 🙂 Now at they same time that I was checking on all this radioactive stuff and along comes a news report about the USA and Russia's uranium:

Russia’s Techsnabexport and three U.S. companies affiliated with the FuelCo Group signed on Tuesday three long-term low-enriched uranium supply contracts. “The contracts are worth $1 billion,” said Sergei Kiriyenko, head of the Rosatom state-controlled nuclear corporation. Under the contracts, enriched uranium will be supplied directly to the U.S. companies from 2014 through 2020. (Link)

Looks like we know where a chunk of that million tons of radioactive material will go. Price is $50 per pound at this writing. That is going to be a bunch!

Blackseabrew could be right? So get the price locked in now because what I am reading while researching this article, is that uranium could go off the price scale in the future…

From Russia: The USA knew that North Korea was Testing a Nuclear Bomb!

Well here in Russia the news slowly gets interesting and what has come out now as the hours have passed following the test of a nuclear device by North Korea.

It looks like America, U.N. and South Korea knew about this test before it was to happen…

The US said that though North Korea’s actions haven’t come as a surprise after what it had Windows to Russia!been saying and doing lately, but they are a matter of grave concern to all nations.

Meanwhile, a high-ranking official from the South Korean President’s administration has claimed that North Korea warned the US authorities about the nuclear test in advance, Itar-Tass news agency reports.

The source also said that South Korean Special Services had been monitoring the test preparations: “That test was not a surprise for us as we expected it and kept an eye on the site where it was conducted.” (Link)

The rumors have it that North Korea never hid the fact that they were going to test a nuclear bomb. In fact from what I have read in the past they told South Korea some time back after it was recently condemned in the United Nations Security Council for launching what it described as a satellite test and what the US and Japan and South Korea said was a ballistic missile test. They said then, that they would test another nuclear bomb…

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened Wednesday to conduct nuclear and missile tests unless the U.N. apologizes for criticizing its April 5 rocket launch, dramatically raising its stake in the worsening standoff over its atomic programs. (Link)

The United Nations never apologized and North Korea did what they said they would do…

So why all the fuss and games?

PS: Looks like North Korea even hollered at the Americans before setting off the bomb: A USA official in Washington, who spoke to Reuters news agency on condition of anonymity, said Pyongyang had given less than an hour’s notice of the test, and had made no demands. (So America did know and even was given a heads up just before N.C. hit the button.)

I was drinking my morning cup of coffee here in Moscow, Russia and the day exploded with North Korea being in the lead position. I thought to myself, “Tricky little devils aren’t they? Lets make a Major USA military holiday a target for turmoil!” No holiday for Obama!

Russia has just verified that North Korea has just exploded, 6 miles underground a – 20 kiloton nuclear warhead. Around a 20 kiloton warhead is what we so casually tossed on top of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Japan) in 1945 to persuade them to see the folly of their ways.

That answers any and all questions about what North Korea has been doing late nights instead of hanging around the local pizza parlor…

So as the world is jumping up and down and calling for war, war, war and some more war, over this so called surprise issue. Lets not forget about the old saying: “If you see one cockroach you have hundreds in hiding!”

North Korea just exploded a test bomb, believe me North Korea has first strike and retaliatory capability!

So this leaves North Korea in the Pakistan mode. We as a world can not chance triggering a smoking gun. North Korea has just put out to the airwaves that they will be conducting several more nuclear tests this year and they also tested several missiles today.

At least North Korea did not hide the fact that they tested a nuclear weapon. They told everyone about that fact. They are telling us that they will do more and that they are going to have nuclear deterrent for defensive capabilities.

If we act hasty in this situation we may not just erase North Korea but also South Korea and Japan.

What Is Happening In Russia This Weekend? (05-24-09)

This weekend has been a pretty busy one for Russia. The criminal, political and business scene has been over run with activity. In fact you would not know it was a weekend except half the city went to the villages. So lets see what Russia has been doing this weekend…

Russia’s Energy Minister Shmatko said on Sunday, that the oil production of Russia is actually going up in volume. This is contrary to Western reports that Russia is having a decline. Russia has not ceased putting money into exploration and development. Now it is showing and 2009 figures are going to equal or exceed 2008 oil figures. Well that is good news for the Kremlin but how about some really cool news…

The English pop group “The Beatles” has a new sculpture that has been unveiled at the Iset River in the heart of Yekaterinburg, the largest city in Russia’s Urals. Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney are featured as “white silhouettes fixed to a brick wall”. Under the silhouettes is the lyric: “In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.”, the last line of the Abby Road song. So now lets jump on over to the Hamas…

Russia has been in some in depth talks with the Hamas and they seem to be working. Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister said on Sunday that the Hamas Palestinian group has accepted a more reasonable position in negotiations on a peace settlement with Israel. This has been a long week of talks and they are paying off it seems. While Lavrov stays busy as a bee all the time lets see what else Russia is getting into…

Looks like a normal catch bad people weekend. On Saturday Police have found a large storage of multiple weapons hidden in the woods of Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, and on Sunday Police have found and removed a bomb planted near a gas pipeline in the Russian North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan. I always think about back home in America and the paranoia that is so common over terrorists. In Russia they are not paranoid they just deal with it and go on about their business. In America they have lost all common sense about terrorist. Maybe Americans need to come here and learn to relax, because America does not have terrorists issues and they do not know what living with terrorists is about…

Lets get political for a moment: A new upstart political party called “Communists of Russia”, which has set an ambitious goal of becoming a full fledged political party. Say that they are the real deal compared to the established party called “The Communist Party of the Russian Federation” (CPRF). They say that they are the answer…

Well I am going to end with that note about the communist. It seems that America still like to use the word communist to insult people and I really do not know why. I would have thought that we would grow up and get over the “You are a commie routine.”

Russia: The Vultures Have Circled and Await the Remains of General Motors!

While drinking that wonderful cup of coffee here in Moscow, Russia. I was doing some thinking about what I had read about Sberbank and GAZ. They have thrown a very good proposition out for GM’s branch of Opal cars.

In Russia one of the most popular cars is the Opel. You will find dealerships even in smaller towns in Russia. This is a car that all Americans should have on their roads, but alas that is not to be. GM is having to sell off their Opel branch and the world is jumping through hoops to try to get it.

Why would everyone want this car company if GM can not make it work?

Good question and easy answer.

GM has such a disaster for a company that they allowed the American components of the business destroy the viable and feasible components of their international business. Opel is a goldmine on this side of the world.

This car in Russia has a fantastic reputation it is stylish, holds the family comfortable and is tough enough to withstand the famous roads of Russia!

That is all you can ask of a car. (Lets watch the video.)


But what’s in the deal for Russians?

GAZ, just recently launched an assembly line for its own version of the American – Chrysler Sebring called the Volga Siber. This was done when Chrysler first showed weakness and impending doom. This gives GAZ advanced designs and knowledge to better prepare for the future. GAZ seems to have other big plans for popular foreign makes. Now that GM is knocking on the door of bankruptcy and total nationalization. Opel has been thrown to the wolves. Opel is on the top of the GAZ list to buy.

All the while the Auto industry moves explicably to the East and leaves the West and the skeletal remains of a once powerful City in the Heartland of America: Detroit!

Russia: The Murmurings of a Ukraine Gas Row are Beginning!

I have said many times that the news in Russia always starts out with little hints about Windows to Russia!the future of certain issues on this side of the world. Usually it is something that is quoted from Medvedev or Putin. Then quoted vice a verse

Today we have Putin saying: “It’s still our common problem, because ensuring a normal supply of gas for Ukrainian domestic consumers is an important condition for ensuring gas supply to European consumers,” he pointed out, recalling the experience of the gas row in January 2009.

Putin’s words mirror a similar statement of President Medvedev, who told European leaders on Friday at the Russia-EU summit in Khabarovsk, that he, “Doubted Ukraine’s ability to pay its gas debt.”

Medvedev also said: “Partners in such situations help their partners, and we are prepared to help Ukraine, but we would like to see the European Union, the countries interested in the stability and security of energy cooperation, to take part in the effort too.”

The one thing that Russia has is unity among her two leaders and no matter what the world tries to say otherwise – Russia has the best tag team leaders going on earth right now!

So Medvedev and Putin have tag teamed on Ukraine and her very unstable government. This is no small issue and what with Russia having paid all transport gas ahead of time for the whole year and a possible 5 years ahead on transport gas payment in the works. Russia is trying to help Ukraine but keep Russian head above water also.

Right now Ukraine is lacking 4 billion dollars worth of gas in her underground storage tanks, some 19.5 billion cubic meters worth. This is the transit gas to ensure uninterrupted supplies to Europe. That is adding up fast and winter is around the corner again.

As all the years before the European Union ignores the issue until Ukraine defaults. Then the European Union has a fit and blames Russia.

Looks like this year – Russia is waving her arms early and loudly. Don’t blame us, Russia says: We have the gas but Ukraine is always in the middle, and with Ukraine being one of the most unstable governments on this side of the world the odds of a gas issue this Winter are looming larger and larger everyday. Do not say we have not warned you! Lets work together to solve the problem now not when the rivers freeze over with a meter of ice…

Today after the wonderful cup of coffee here in Moscow Russia, Boza and I decided to take a long walk. I took pictures today because Moscow has finally gotten rid of Winter. Now everyone still wears coats because it is still rather cool out.

Since it is Friday and Dacha season in Russia. The streets are empty in the residential areas. So as we walked today I took pictures of where Boza and I walk. Since Boza and I like to be left alone while we walk, we were in heaven today. 🙂

Russian monetary base up $750 mln in week to $123 bln:
Russia’s Central Bank said Friday the country’s narrowly defined money supply (M1) was 3 trillion 871.7 billion rubles ($123.4 billion at the current exchange rate) as of May 18, up 23.5 billion rubles ($750 million) since May 12.

Russia launches military satellite into orbit:
