Important News From Russia (12/24/2010)


Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy over the phone that France has won a tender to build amphibious assault ships for Russia. (Link)

Russian state-run TV channels should reflect real events without concealing undesirable issues, President Dmitry Medvedev said in a live interview with three of Russia’s leading TV channel general managers on Friday. (Link)

The lower house of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, has approved the first reading of three for the ratification bill of the new Russian-U.S. arms reduction treaty. (Link)

Overcoming the economic crisis, the summer’s wildfires, the New START strategic arms agreement, the 65th anniversary of World War II and a new focus on children’s problems were the most important issues in 2010 for Russia, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday. (Link)

The North is likely to stage its third nuclear test next year, according to a report made public by South Korea’s Foreign Ministry Research Center. (Link)

In case the United States retains any of the nuclear-tipped missiles to be scrapped under START for re-arming them with conventional warheads, Russia will interpret this as a clear violation of the latest strategic arms reduction agreement. Defence Minister Anatoli Serdiukov told this to the Lower House of the Russian Parliament Friday. (Link)

US Senate’s Amendments to START: Essentially Strike Out the Document…


“What’s more, I carefully reviewed all of the Senate’s amendments. There are some that essentially strike out the document. US President Obama promised the Republicans that if they support this document, four phases of a missile defense system will be deployed, including the intention to surround Russia with ABM bases from the Black Sea to the Baltic coast. In this case, the agreement loses all sense for Russia. We need to think about ways to defend ourselves,” cautioned Zyuganov.

Pretty Simple: America Changed the START Treaty…


Russia said, Arms Treaty Can Not Be Changed. This was from the beginning a non negotiable treaty. It was set up by the Presidents of the two countries and was to be kept the way it was signed…

America Changed it…

Now Russia is a tiny bit upset with the diversion…

Here is what the Western press forgot to tell you: On Thursday, the US Senate finally ratified the nuclear arms reduction treaty after months of indecision. However, under pressure from the Republican Party, the Senate made some amendments to the document. These now have to be considered by the Russian side. (Link)

I remember the big “ta do” about “GOP bid to change U.S.-Russia nuclear treaty fails”…

Looks like a big fat lie from this side of the world. The changes that America made are not sitting well. Now we know why it took America so long to get a copy to Russia…

Does their (South Korea) blood lust have any limits?

So while I was drinking my coffee and doing some thinking’s. This comment above stuck in my mind. I had other things like START issues, Medvedev talking about Democracy and countries shoving Democracy down your throat, Wikileaks escapades and what is Putin up to…

But this comment was the item that stayed in my mind, so now I am doing a little bit of research about, “Stupid is as Stupid Does!”

I came across this BBC article while checking around:

North Korea’s armed forces minister has said his country is ready for a “holy war” using the nuclear deterrent. Kim Yong-chun said live-fire exercises conducted by South Korea near the border were a preparation for war with the North. The drill is one of the largest in South Korea’s history, involving tanks, helicopters and fighter planes.

So we take everything that was accomplished by Bill Richardson last week and instigate more provocation instead of using the situation to mellow the world on a brink of nuclear war…

By the way South Korean’s army acknowledges the fact on the news. That they are doing this drill to display its firepower and how tough they are. “The drill this time is one of the largest in South Korea’s history, involving tanks, helicopters and fighter planes.” All so that they can saber rattle at the North…

OK! When Seoul is a burning pit of mortared trash. All South Korea’s chest beating and saber rattling will kinda look stupid…

I realized what kind of hypocrites the South Korea is when I see a video about a huge Christmas tree put on the border by the South Korea and act like they want to pass on good will and cheer…

They need that peace on earth and goodwill to all men: Because the North Korea just upped the ante and they have a “Holy War” to prepare for…

All I can say is “Stupid is as Stupid Does!” to both of the Korea’s…

Seems to be a Possible Snag in the START Treaty Resolution from America


Update: (12/24/2010):

The resolution of the US Senate on the START treaty has no legal force, says the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He was speaking in Moscow earlier today. Lavrov described the claims that non-nuclear missiles do not fall under the new treaty as failing to meet reality. Russia’s topmost diplomat pointed out that the START treaty text has from the outset seen non-nuclear strategic arms as part of the general arms ceilings that are subject to reductions. “This, along with the ABM issue, was a key provision of Russia’s position”, Lavrov said. The US Senate has already ratified the Russian-American treaty on strategic arms reductions. The treaty is now under consideration by the Russian Parliament’s lower house, the State Duma. (Link)

Looks like this may get interesting. Has America changed the fundamentals?

The Kremlin has expressed a concern about the new START resolution that is being sent from America.

Boris Gryzlov a speaker in the lower house of parliament said, the text of the resolution approved by the U.S. Senate is not yet available to the State Duma but that it will arrive within a few hours’ time.”There is information that the resolution contains several conditions,” Gryzlov said. “Unless the conditions concern the wording of the treaty, we may ratify the treaty tomorrow.”

“However, if there have been changes in the text of the treaty, we will have to work on the issue,” he added. (Link)

Russia has made it clear that acceptance will only happen if the wording is not changed. If you remember correctly that Russia has already tore up the ratification that they had ready because of 30 changes that America had to the treaty…

Medvedev has also welcomed the START Treaty resolution but said that “The parliament might need some time to study the legal aspects of the ratification by the Senate prior to making its own decision.” his spokeswoman Natalya Timakova said. (This was in conjunction with the knowledge that things have been changed.)

8 months ago this treaty was signed by Medvedev and Obama. Very quickly after that it was ready for ratification (as it stood) by Russia. Russia had no need for changes or demands.

Has America at the last minute before Christmas has passed this resolution and tossed it back at Russia? Not in its original form as Russia has accepted…

As the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed in a news meeting today: Lavrov said as he stressed that “the arms reduction agreement could not be amended. The document cannot be reopened and negotiated again…”

What he means is that the two presidents (Medvedev and Obama) made the treaty and that is the way it is to stand. The details are done and in black and white. It has been signed, seal and delivered…

Is this what is happening? Has the START Treaty been altered in anyway? What will Russia do if it has been changed?

Russia has been preparing for this very thing to happen and it has been obvious in the last few months with all the news “bits and bites” going on. So I know what Russia is going to do about a failed treaty…

I hope that this is not true but the rumors are flying at the chess matches today… 🙂

Russia and the Upcoming Wikileaks Leaks…


According to sources from Russia and the Western press: WikiLeaks has partnered with Novaya Gazeta, a Russian newspaper that has sharply criticized the government over the years and became a Kremlin target in the process.

WikiLeaks is providing the newspaper — which is controlled by former leader Mikhail Gorbachev and billionaire Alexander Lebedev — with Russia-specific documents. (Lebedev, along with his son, owns several British newspapers.) Read More >>>

I will be looking forward to these leaks. The rumors have floated strongly for the last few days and I posted an article that this was on its way awhile back. (Link) I think it is interesting that Gorby has something to do with them. I could also tell they were coming because Medvedev has been talking about the Wikileaks in India:

The Russian president was responding to a question by a student at IIT-Bombay during an interaction program.Claiming that the cables released by WikiLeaks would cause no harm to Russia, he said, “We do not care about it, but sometimes people use rough words and others get emotional about it.”

Describing diplomacy as a “quiet activity”, Medvedev said sometimes unpopular and dramatic decisions have to be taken.

“Each person should realize that in inter-state relations, sooner or later, information would be made public,” he said.

Plus some other things have been said by him as to the effect that the leaks are no big deal…

I do truly believe that the leaks will have much less effect on Russia because no one in Russia has a trillion misconceptions embedded in their brain that Russia is “”not” saying bad things about the rest of the world. We all know that they are. The downfall comes from these kind of leaks and you have been spouting for years to the world that you are all “that and perfect” and “some more perfect” on top of it…

Heck, half the world still thinks that Russia attacked Georgia, the “Russkaya Mafiya”  is sitting in your kitchen threatening you everyday and Russia’s evilness is lead by a procession of lap-dancers and sexy tennis players…

If that gives you an idea of what everyone thinks of Russia…

The US Senate finally ratified the new START nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia by a 71-26 vote…

Thank you for getting that done. I know that Russia is happy because it is all over the news outlets here. Since it is 12:24 am and they never post news this late. You know it is big news for the Kremlin…

I was proven wrong and I am glad…

Moscow Police Chief and Stopping Corruption – Can he do it?


In a press interview with Moscow police chief Vladimir Kolokoltsev. The police chief pledged to increase transparency in the Russian police force in a bid to crack down on rampant corruption. He said, “We are not going to conceal anything,” He also added that members of the general public can report corruption cases at the official police telephone number, by dialing 02. The police chief also said that official starting salary of a Moscow police officer will be increased to 60,000 rubles ($1,950) a month by the year 2012, as low incomes are cited by the press and government as one of biggest causes of bribe taking…

My question is what about the rest of Russia? This is a first step but the problem is all over Russia…

But yes it is getting better, contrary to all non believers… 🙂

President Medvedev hopes the US Senate will expeditiously ratify the latest Russian-American strategic arms reduction treaty, signed at a summit in Prague on April 8th. He also promised almost simultaneous ratification in Moscow. For Moscow has been waiting for months…
