Nabucco Pipeline, Has it Been Checked or Checkmated…

Sign The Deal...

I saw this and smiled today. I was wondering if Medvedev was going to do, what I thought he was going to do and he did…

Azerbaijan is going to sell all its gas to Russia’s Gazprom. The picture above is President Dmitry Medvedev and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilkham Aliyev signing the contract…

Under an agreement reached during talks in Baku between Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Ilkham Aliyev, 2 billion cubic meters will be pumped to Russia next year and over 2 billion in 2012.

Analysts say the decision will become a serious blow to the Nabucco gas pipeline, which is designed to transport Caspian gas into Europe bypassing Russia.

According to the General Director of the Energy Security Foundation Konstantin Simonov, the Nabucco pipe cannot be filled without gas from Azerbaijan.

(Ouch – Do you think Russia knew that going into talks with Azerbaijan?) 🙂

Talk about stirring up the Western World

Is it Becoming Harder to be an Expat in Russia?

As in the whole world, companies in Russia have resorted to job cuts over the past twelve months to stay afloat! Foreign workers were hit hard by these cuts and more than two thirds of expats in Russia have lost their jobs and have had to go home…

The brunt of these expats are upper management with big corporations, that “trimmed the fat” so to speak. Russia has a much better trained management core of workers now than they did even a few years ago. So the need for expats to consultant and train is virtually non existent.

This was an inevitable situation, even with out the financial crises. I have done multiple studies and reports on what I call the McDonald’s Syndrome. One of the by products of a McDonald’s society is a huge influx of well trained management due to an extensive management training program that McDonald’s incorporates in societies that they flourish in. This management team can spread to all aspects of the society and as such, diminish the need for outside influence in the respective fields.

The question that I have and will be studying is: Will these jobs come back in time or are they lost forever? (I hedge on forever!)

More to come—

15 Tons of Aid for Fire Victims is Thrown Away…

It seems that some officials in the fire struck regions decided that the aid sent from Siberia was not worth keeping…

This is the best translation of the crime that I can do from multiples of sources…

Following the Ryazan region, where the landfill has been identified humanitarian aid for residents of burned villages, a similar situation occurred in neighboring Mordovia. This is two dump areas that have been discovered of goods that were sent by villages from other areas of Russia.

These dumps contained new and used items…

It turned out that a landfill in Saransk was found with new high-quality leather and fur coats and blue jeans. Things are sorted and packed into boxes and bags into different categories such as: “bedding”, “winter clothes“, “women shoes”. All items were o shipments of goods that were to help the people who lost everything in the summer fires…

Interestingly, some discarded items are preserved with even sales reciept. This was done so people would understand that items were new and not used…

The investigators will conduct an audit and will address the issue of measures of prosecutions for responsible people. According to investigators, the village of Fresh (?), of the Shatsky District, sent the Ryazan region two trucks with humanitarian cargo weighing about 15 tons. It comprised of shoes and clothes were to be distributed among those affected by forest fires. That aid is part of the dumped supplies found…

It seems that one official has already been fired over this. I really find it hard to believe that someone would do this:

An official in the Ryazan region, one of the areas most affected by this summer’s fires, has been fired after it became known that she had dumped humanitarian aid intended for fire victims.

The head of a local social aid center, Svetlana Dardykina, said she had no room to stock the clothes and that most of them were old and not fit for use.

However, locals say many things were brand new and even had checks attached.

Aleksandr Shustin, from the logistics company which delivered the 15-ton cargo from Siberia to the Ryazan region, confirmed this: “We packed the aid ourselves, there was no garbage, no old useless things,” he said.

These people lost everything in these fires and a pair of shoes or a new coat is like the world to these people. These items were sent by people who care and want to help from all over Russia…

Looks like the only useless things I see in this, are officials who do not care about their people that live in their area that they are suppose to be helping…

Long Haul Trucks in Russia Now Allowed From America…

We Want American Trucks...

Putin told his government on Thursday that he met with truckers during his trip along Khabarovsk-Chita highway in the Far East and they asked to allow imports of used second-hand U.S. long haul style trucks…

Putin responded, “The government will satisfy the requests of the drivers and will amend safety regulations for wheeled vehicles to allow long-haul trucks of a bigger size of up to 20 meters,”…

In the past the regulations had restricted trucks to a total length of 18 meters…

Putin expressed hope that the domestic industry will produce such trucks in Russia with time…

The ministry of industry and trade hurried to respond on Thursday the regulations had been amended and U.S.-made trucks can now be imported into Russia…

Now that was interesting and I did not realize that they had a restriction on truck length…

Medvedev Says: No threat of food deficit in Russia…

Medvedev Checking Food Prices...

There is no threat of a food deficit in Russia despite the recent drought, The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, said during a meeting of the State Council on domestic food market policies in Saratov (Volga region).

Medvedev promised to get control of speculative food prices and added that even according to the most pessimistic forecasts, Russia’s grain harvest this year is expected at no less than 60 million tons, including carryover stocks of 21-25 million tons.

“This is more than enough to meet our demands in food and feed grain”, Mr. Medvedev said.

The Russian President urged the government and the regional authorities to supervise food prices.  Original Source: Voice of Russia
