Oh Superman don’t chase this spaceship! ~~

Roscosmos announced the testing of a plasma engine for satellites. A feature of this test was that the electric rocket engine runs on economically cheap fuel – krypton.

“In the interests of the federal project “Sphere”, the enterprises of the State Corporation “Roscosmos” – OKB “Fakel” and the SSC “Center of Keldysh” – for the first time tested the stationary plasma engine SPD-70M on krypton,” the state corporation said.

Krypton is 5-10 times cheaper than traditional xenon, it can give acceptable engine parameters. The developers said that the engine showed stable operation and reliable launch parameters. The new fuel fully complies with the requirements for satellites of the Sphere project.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian rocket engine makers have tested an innovative type of satellite thruster powered by krypton, a noble gas that is up to 10 times cheaper than the standard xenon, Roscosmos said Friday.
